I have in my mind a sort of picture - the picture is an explosion, and as you radiate farther from the center of the explosion, the intensity decreases and dissipates, with the whole explosion eventually dying down into nothing - however, within the radius of the explosion, another has a small chance of occurring - if it does, it creates another explosive radius which gradually dissipates, but has a chance of generating a new explosion or several within it et cetera.
