Acts 8:31

2020-02-03 22:37:45 UTC

2020-02-03 22:37:58 UTC

Whenever catholics try to defend their traditions they always use the bible

2020-02-03 22:38:27 UTC

the fact that you are quoting scripture to me to prove your point, proves my point

2020-02-03 22:38:40 UTC

the base is scripture

2020-02-03 22:39:06 UTC

The two are mutually exclusive?

2020-02-03 22:39:25 UTC

no

2020-02-03 22:39:34 UTC

Well, there you go then

2020-02-03 22:39:48 UTC

I'm not Roman Catholic, btw

2020-02-03 22:40:26 UTC

its just that some traditions or interpretations become corrupted

2020-02-03 22:40:29 UTC

like indulgences

2020-02-03 22:40:34 UTC

But what I've been taught within the Orthodox Church is that, yes, Scripture is the base

2020-02-03 22:40:47 UTC

protestants just disagreed with the catholics interpetations, so we split

2020-02-03 22:40:51 UTC

But there is Holy Tradition that has grown from it

2020-02-03 22:41:20 UTC

But if it's a matter of interpretation, by what standard can it all be judged?

2020-02-03 22:41:45 UTC

Or, more clearly, how can you tell if one interpretation is right where the other is wrong?

2020-02-03 22:42:03 UTC

you debate it

2020-02-03 22:42:12 UTC

They can't BOTH be right, and if it's worth fighting about they can't BOTH be wrong.

2020-02-03 22:42:26 UTC

Debate from what?

2020-02-03 22:42:50 UTC

debate your intepretation from the scripture and the original greek and such

2020-02-03 22:43:03 UTC

thats how you come to know truth in anything

2020-02-03 22:43:12 UTC

I mean, yes, I believe there is truth to that

2020-02-03 22:43:29 UTC

That what the Church has done historically

2020-02-03 22:43:39 UTC

But it has also set precedent

2020-02-03 22:44:11 UTC

And built of 2000 years of consistent Tradition that grew forth from the Scripture and those who applied it in their lives.

2020-02-03 22:44:39 UTC

I mean, that's the whole point of the Ecumenical Councils

2020-02-03 22:44:53 UTC

we just dont like the way its grown. if you end up with mary and saint worship and indulgences then something has gone wrong

2020-02-03 22:45:02 UTC

And Christ Himself said the gates of hell will never prevail over the church

2020-02-03 22:45:10 UTC

sure the chruch dosent do indulgences anymore

2020-02-03 22:45:12 UTC

but it did

2020-02-03 22:45:15 UTC

and has gone back on it

2020-02-03 22:45:23 UTC

which kind of undermines the whole infallibility thing

2020-02-03 22:45:24 UTC

The Roman Catholic Church did

2020-02-03 22:45:38 UTC

Again, I'm not Roman Catholic

2020-02-03 22:46:05 UTC

dosent matter

2020-02-03 22:46:19 UTC

you were the one that claimed sola scritura lead to disaster

2020-02-03 22:46:43 UTC

and ive never heard an argument against it

2020-02-03 22:47:00 UTC

scriptura

2020-02-03 22:47:05 UTC

Neither the Roman Catholics nor the various and sundry sects of Protestantism act in ways consistent with the Scriptures or Holy Tradition.

2020-02-03 22:48:02 UTC

Well I did. You can confidently point out that the Roman Catholic interpretation is incorrect, but how can you know yours is correct, using just the scriptures as written?

2020-02-03 22:48:15 UTC

thats a big question
