wth is gamergate

Gamergate started with this harlot called Zoe Quinn.

She was an amateur game dev using her body to get favourable reviews from mid-level reviewers, and her boyfriend at the time found out about it and went public.

Then /v/ got hold of it and did some digging and it opened up some pretty huge questions about journalistic integrity, and the more you kept digging, the larger the web got; implicating several big names in video game media and companies themselves.

So all of a sudden, there was a surge of content and an attitude of "Gamers are dead" from the industry.

They did a complete 180 on their core market.

And this led young men into the arms of places like /pol/.

Have you noticed just how quickly we seem to have spiralled into the clown world in the last decade?

It was on its way in before that, sure; but the whole thing has gone into a massive tailspin, mainly I dare say, because of things like Gamergate.

The only thing the enemy has had left to do is doubledown.

Gamergate really was a catalyst, I remember not even questioning not just the games industry, but progressivism broadly back in the day. My dad watched Glenn Beck nightly so I had the early seeds of suspicion planted, but overall I figured game devs coukd do no wrong and enlightenment values would prevail. Unfortunately I realized too late that this was them prevailing. I was a run-of-the-mill shitposter at the time, so Mr. Metokur (then InternetAristocrat) was really appealing. I still enjoy and to an extent respect the guy, even if he's too chickenshit to really stand for anything in the real world, but that whole wave of youtube content creators really pushed me into the real world in a lot of ways

I went hard right before Gamergate and Catholic a couple of years after.

On a side note, I don't take music to the gym
