First, there was a full schism, unlike there is today. It would have been more like baring all Anglican Bishops from Catholic Cathedrals than baring morally corrupt Bishops.

Second, unlike during the Arian crisis our Bishops still retain their Episcopal authority, again because there is not a schism these days.
