I’m arguing with one chap about Francisco Franco, and whether he acted reasonably within Christian teaching.

One thing that is troubling me is the war rapes committed by his army.

I can’t find a condemnation issued by him anywhere.

Let's be honest though...we're never going to be able to justify everything he did.

Just like how Maoists can't justify everything Mao did. Or Leninists. Or Nazi supporters. We can go on a long journey for that.

Didn't Franco get praised by the pope at the time?

Catholic morality condemns rape. So if Franco is praised by the pope for being a good Catholic i think that basically gives us an answer on what his opinion would have been on the matter of rape, wether he said it or not

he was a righteous person. It is obvious he despised degeneracy of that kind. Spain was a safe country during Francos regime, where peo0le had no fear while walking on the streets at night. That is what old people who lived back then told me
