I don't know enough about it

2018-11-22 21:52:05 UTC

So, the Irish were mistreated by the British for 800 years, and about 50 years into Catholic emancipation after the mistreatment had permanently ceased, a few Irish nationalists decide to spring for independence in the capital city in 1916.

2018-11-22 21:52:12 UTC

No more than a few dozen men.

2018-11-22 21:52:22 UTC

Obviously it fails, and they are all executed.

2018-11-22 21:52:52 UTC

The executions of these young men was probably a step too far by the British empire.

2018-11-22 21:53:10 UTC

So the Irish population are outraged, and fight a whole war of independence.

2018-11-22 21:53:45 UTC

Before and during the war, the British empire sends former WW1 veterans to basically spread absolute terror amongst the population.

2018-11-22 21:53:55 UTC

Obviously, the Irish are even more outraged, rightfully so.

2018-11-22 21:55:20 UTC

So, they fight for independence, and during the peace negotiations, a treaty is established, that would give Ireland the status of a dominion, meaning they have their own parliament, their own prime minister, the British parliament has zero control over them, and they are a part of the British commonwealth.

2018-11-22 21:56:25 UTC

This absolute retard politician known as Eamon De Valera is furious that he wasn't involved enough in the treaty negotiations, and thinks the treaty is bogus.

2018-11-22 21:57:30 UTC

The Irish population approve the treaty by a resounding popular vote, and he decides to go to war with the pro-treaty politicians, because he believes members of the Irish parliament shouldn't have to pledge allegiance to the British monarch.

2018-11-22 21:57:51 UTC

So, thousands die in a war over what is, essentially, a meaningless political oath.

2018-11-22 21:59:05 UTC

Eventually, De Valera gets what he wants, becomes president of Ireland.

2018-11-22 21:59:50 UTC

That manipulative scum is responsible for a civil war, thousands of innocent deaths of his own countrymen, over what is essentially a vanity project.

2018-11-22 22:00:46 UTC

Now modern Irish nationalists have a pathological hatred for Britain, want to see Britain absolutely crushed, just because they have this delusion that we're in the 1700's as opposed to 2018.

2018-11-22 22:21:58 UTC

Anyway, how's everybody's day been?

2018-11-22 22:27:58 UTC

Had to work 5:30am-2:pm
Exhausted

2018-11-22 22:47:29 UTC

Well, considering that Ireland was the last occidental country to be orthodox until the invasion of the British who converted the Irish Church in a Catholic one...

2018-11-22 22:47:34 UTC

That's paradoxal.

2018-11-22 22:58:35 UTC

Ireland was always Catholic.

2018-11-22 23:01:54 UTC

Yeah, of course. When does the Irish Church have accepted Roman Primacy ?

@Constantin le Lamantin sorry but you're outright incorrect.

2018-11-23 12:34:44 UTC

Whilst the Orthodoxy of Ireland could be argued (I personally don't buy into the argument) until later after the schism, it was the Synod of Rathbreasail, which was convened by Irish, not English bishops, in 1111 AD, which accepted Roman primacy.

2018-11-23 12:35:39 UTC

The English invasion didn't take place until 400 years later in 1536, and by that time, England had been separated from Rome for around five years anyway.

2018-11-23 12:40:53 UTC

I suppose the Norman invasion could be a point, but that took place after the councils which encouraged Gregorian reforms, so I certainly don't buy into it. Besides, the main intentions of Henry II's invasion was to exert dominance over Norman warlords and the Irish kings.

2018-11-23 12:41:18 UTC

There is also very little proof of the actual existence of the Laudabiliter bull.

2018-11-23 15:23:02 UTC

Well, I learned something new today.

2018-11-23 15:32:16 UTC

"Lord Jesus, you are the only foundation that can hold us up when trials and disaster threaten us. Give me the wisdom, foresight, and strength of character I need to do what is right and good and to reject whatever is false and contrary to your will. May I be a doer of your word and not a hearer only."

2018-11-23 18:29:50 UTC

I had another very bizarre dream last night.

2018-11-23 18:30:08 UTC

I woke up in my house, went downstairs, and there's somebody wearing a tunic.

2018-11-23 18:30:31 UTC

He says "hello, I'm St Peter, I hope you don't mind me staying here."

2018-11-23 18:30:44 UTC

(Before I go on, I'm not claiming to have witnessed an apparition)

2018-11-23 18:31:19 UTC

He then tells me that he's going across the Sea of Galilee at lunchtime to meet Jesus Christ.

2018-11-23 18:31:50 UTC

So, I go for a nap, so that I can be nice and fresh to meet my Lord.

2018-11-23 18:31:52 UTC

I wake up, and it's 8pm.

2018-11-23 18:32:41 UTC

St Peter is downstairs, and says "ah, you completely slept through the day."
