we have a 6pm mass with bass guitar which kinda sucks

2019-05-04 08:46:24 UTC

he wants to start having bbqs etc after mass sometimes and doing more bible studies and stuff outside of just mass during the days so students can come

2019-05-04 08:46:43 UTC

our 3 Frs, 2 are youngtrads and 1 is a 50 something year old, really nice guy

2019-05-04 08:46:56 UTC

3 priest wowe

2019-05-04 08:46:56 UTC

BBQs after mass is a great way to boost attendance

2019-05-04 08:47:02 UTC

yeet

2019-05-04 08:47:09 UTC

our bishop visits regularly as well

2019-05-04 08:47:15 UTC

he used to anyway

2019-05-04 08:47:18 UTC

we have like 3 priests in the whole city who would say the latin mass, and one of them is FSSP

2019-05-04 08:47:21 UTC

before he passed

2019-05-04 08:47:28 UTC

i heard a new one is coming

2019-05-04 08:47:53 UTC

Fr Youngtrads are pushing hard for more TLM and also ad orientem

2019-05-04 08:48:04 UTC

but old father is hesistant

2019-05-04 08:48:38 UTC

he actually does a NO in Latin every friday, but he's afraid that letting the parish become too trad will actually drive out people

2019-05-04 08:49:02 UTC

I really wish there was more outreach from the trad community here, there barely seems any. The only thing I see from the FSSP parish I go to is mass times in the Archdiocese newspaper

2019-05-04 08:49:27 UTC

all the dudes in the frat are trad or trad leaning, and the regular attendees are too which is amazing

2019-05-04 08:49:59 UTC

There's one inner-city parish which has a young priest who has been very very slowly and pastorally trad-ifying his boomer parish and having great success. I think he's starting to do a Latin mass once a week

2019-05-04 08:50:09 UTC

but trad can mean anything from "I dont think women serving and guitars are a good idea" to full blown "only TLM REEEE"

2019-05-04 08:50:18 UTC

yeah true

2019-05-04 08:50:21 UTC

most of the people I talk to are the prior

2019-05-04 08:50:36 UTC

same, not sure I know anyone like the latter in person

2019-05-04 08:50:43 UTC

which Archdiocese?

2019-05-04 08:50:48 UTC

Canberra-Goulburn

2019-05-04 08:50:52 UTC

the bishop plays the most important role tbh

2019-05-04 08:51:00 UTC

good bishop=healthy parishes

2019-05-04 08:51:19 UTC

Ive had the honor of having one of the best bishops ever

2019-05-04 08:51:26 UTC

and the new one is shaping up to be pretty cool too

2019-05-04 08:52:07 UTC

He invited ICKSP into his old diocese, and when the boomers tried to kick them out of the parish he personally made it a point to attempt to reconcile them

2019-05-04 08:53:11 UTC

The Bishop here is pretty good all things considering - he is very much involved with his community, travels several hours to do masses in the outskirts of our (quite large) archdiocese whenever he has a free Sunday. He teaches proper orthodox doctrine and his masses at the Cathedral are pretty good for NO. He is also really happy to accomodate FSSP, and goes and does 1962 rite confirmations etc

2019-05-04 08:54:01 UTC

The territory the city is in recently passed laws enforcing mandatory reporting of confession and he basically wrote a letter saying "piss off we aren't going to break the seal of confession"

2019-05-04 08:54:11 UTC

BASED

2019-05-04 08:54:52 UTC

He's not super based, quite boomer in his outlook, but he at least doesn't teach any heresy or anything

2019-05-04 08:55:55 UTC

he is a very much "smell like your sheep" kinda guy, I've talked to him in person all the time. He has a habit of talking to you in a condescending way like you don't know anything at all, but he's pretty nice

2019-05-04 08:56:07 UTC

ah.

2019-05-04 08:56:22 UTC

My former bishop was super nice to all of us

2019-05-04 08:56:23 UTC

Your corner of the Catholic world seems pretty lucky

2019-05-04 08:56:59 UTC

It also doesn't help that my city is the most radically left pro-gay etc place in the entire country

2019-05-04 08:57:05 UTC

my uni as well

2019-05-04 08:57:43 UTC

@Orrbit one of my former bishop's letters to the Diocese
