The absolute state of Catholics <:GWlulurdMmmYea:402868023393910794>

2019-06-21 17:09:14 UTC

In and of themselves, no.

2019-06-21 17:09:24 UTC

But the reasons people get them these days are asinine.

2019-06-21 17:09:45 UTC

@The Captain, could you elaborate?

2019-06-21 17:10:29 UTC

I'm Macedonian Orthodox myself, though I'm trying to find a Bulgarian Orthodox parish @Daniil

2019-06-21 17:10:36 UTC

?

2019-06-21 17:10:37 UTC

That's no easy task in Serbia

2019-06-21 17:11:04 UTC

Having no idea how communion in orthodoxy works, I don't really follow the significance

2019-06-21 17:11:10 UTC

We dont do sectarianism on this server @The Captain

2019-06-21 17:11:14 UTC

Keep this in mind

2019-06-21 17:12:04 UTC

@GodFearingEnglishman I just find it funny that a Catholic of all people would defend the plague that are tattoos

2019-06-21 17:12:15 UTC

They are a plague

2019-06-21 17:12:24 UTC

But one must be careful in saying why they are a plague

2019-06-21 17:12:50 UTC

Saying "no, on the whole, this isn't sinful" is hardly a defence. Just stating facts.

2019-06-21 17:13:02 UTC

Which is not because they are themselves a sin, but because they usually are a symptom of short-sightendness, degeneracy, wanting to be a special snowflake, etc

2019-06-21 17:14:57 UTC

Saying 'just don't be frivolous' to someone who's planning to get tattoos to express their region of origin and to cover up their skin is no different than encouraging them to sin outright

2019-06-21 17:15:22 UTC

Here is a common tattoo which pilgrims used to have after visiting the Holy Land, since 1300. Is this sinful? Is it a plague?

2019-06-21 17:17:19 UTC

Would I be "encouraging someone to sin outright" if I told them that they could get it?

2019-06-21 17:18:04 UTC

One must differentiate "sinful" from "stupid"

2019-06-21 17:18:44 UTC

We're talking about a very specific situation here, buddy. Quit trying to change the goalpost @GodFearingEnglishman

2019-06-21 17:20:28 UTC

Doing no such thing.

2019-06-21 17:20:53 UTC

The goalpost is whether or not tattoos are sinful

2019-06-21 17:20:55 UTC

I'm just not speaking absolutely, whereas you are.

2019-06-21 17:21:03 UTC

Yes, quite.

2019-06-21 17:21:09 UTC

Given that they are not themselves, a correct advice is " just don't be stupid"

2019-06-21 17:21:16 UTC

Indeed.

2019-06-21 17:21:50 UTC

And I don't think Iohannes was talking about this situation in particular

2019-06-21 17:22:01 UTC

But rather about concerning tattoos in general

2019-06-21 17:22:01 UTC

Orio asked a very specific question, and I gave an answer in that context. What pilgrims did in the 14th centurty is absolutely irrelevant

2019-06-21 17:22:03 UTC

I'm just speaking in general.

2019-06-21 17:22:12 UTC

The question is whether they are a sin or not

2019-06-21 17:22:17 UTC

They are not

2019-06-21 17:22:34 UTC

Not at all. If something is sinful now, it would have been equally as sinful six hundred years ago.

2019-06-21 17:22:46 UTC

🤦

2019-06-21 17:23:06 UTC

You're being puritanical.

2019-06-21 17:23:21 UTC

We all hate the typical tattooed retard as much as you do

2019-06-21 17:23:26 UTC

And a moral relativist.

2019-06-21 17:23:30 UTC

But we have to be stric

2019-06-21 17:23:31 UTC

t

2019-06-21 17:24:30 UTC

If you see no difference between tattooing your arms in order to cover up 'chicken skin' and getting a tattoo to commemorate your pilgrimage to Jerusalem (even though I view that as being equally stupid although not necessarily sinful), then I can't help you.

2019-06-21 17:24:39 UTC

Yes, I'm the moral relativist <:GWlulurdMmmYea:402868023393910794>
