yea its perfectly worth getting into it, even if you play casually you could probably hit the level cap within a month or two

it only takes a few weeks of playing to hit end game content

basically how it goes is

you stop at level 50 but start gaining champion points which get used for different perks in stats, gear caps out at CP160, and you can currently only use 750 total points

I might try it when I get back to my desktop which is at home.
