You see, the 5000 year old Yamna culture is widely accepted to be the homeland of the "Proto-Indo Europeans". Likewise, the Proto-Indo Europeans have been determined to be the ancestors of the modern Europeans, and the forbearers of most of their languages. For decades, anthropologists and linguists have been trying to determine when, where, and how these so-called Proto-Indo Europeans came to be. However, in recent years their have been major breakthroughs in this puzzle. Samples from the region associated with this culture around that time have been found to be around ~30% Caucasus Hunter Gatherer (ancestors of the Armenians) and ~70% Eastern Hunter Gatherer (Indigenous North-East European). According to Y-DNA analysis it seems that the 30% Caucasus Hunter Gatherer was inherited maternally; simply put, those indigenous Europeans simply could not resist the beautiful Armenian temptresses, and as a result of succumbing to their temptations, they created a new culture: the Yamna culture.
This Yamna culture led a bloody invasion into Europe, introducing new languages and new cultures into the region as they began to create offshoot cultures. However, the Y-DNA (R-L23) of the original Yamna culture - not it's offshoots - is only present among a few countries today; for example, Armenia, Greece, and Albania. It is believed that phonetic similarities between the Armenian and Greek languages is due to indo-European invaders introducing the Greek language to the region straight from the steppe (as with Armenia).
