@Avald Sample size matters. Impact factor is gamed, big named journals are gamed...

2019-12-28 13:23:12 UTC

Acknowledging that is different than saying there's nothing of value from a discipline.

2019-12-28 13:24:07 UTC

We might as well throw out Medicine if that's your standard, don't go to a doctor. All medical research has 80% or more failure rate when "reproduced".

2019-12-28 13:24:22 UTC

there is value, its just that its grains of gold in a mountain of manure

2019-12-28 13:24:31 UTC

That's life..

2019-12-28 13:24:43 UTC

If knowledge were easy to attain the world wouldn't be so messy.

2019-12-28 13:28:09 UTC

tbh, whats worse is that there is no way to fix that issue, you centralize and you start getting internal politics into it, you decentralize and it becomes a matter of marketing to get funding, there is no way to stop that from happening

2019-12-28 13:28:28 UTC

There's ways to fix it, the academic bubble just needs to burst.

2019-12-28 13:28:44 UTC

The journals are basically scamming tax payers out of their money

2019-12-28 13:28:53 UTC

Universities, The government, Libraries

2019-12-28 13:29:29 UTC

its not going to fix it, not really, not in such a way that it could work in perpetuity, it might work for a little while and then slowly transform back into what it was before the bubble burst

2019-12-28 13:29:30 UTC

When it's been shown time and time again basically all peer review does is proofreading

2019-12-28 13:30:10 UTC

It's just another way for people to scam the government.

2019-12-28 13:30:25 UTC

These's journals aren't worth their subscription fee for what they provide.

2019-12-28 13:31:20 UTC

And god forbid you publish publicly on some open access journal...

2019-12-28 13:32:49 UTC

I've seen papers rejected from journals because the researcher published similar research to open access journals

2019-12-28 13:34:24 UTC

There's lots of problems, but if you're talking about Psychology that's more on the sciency side, it's better than fields people perceive as being, "Harder science" like medicine...

2019-12-28 13:51:04 UTC

true that, espcially considering that we have only started to test for how effective medicine is for women vs men in the last 3-4 decades and even then, its not a consistent thing, most of the time it just goes into checking if pregnant woman can use it, without an adverse effect on the fetus, not go the full monty and check if its just as effective with just as few side effects for women

2019-12-28 14:09:06 UTC

@Avald
But women and men are the exact same, goy.

2019-12-28 14:09:57 UTC

Why even bother testing? Everyone's biology is literally the exact same, with slight differences in skin color.

2019-12-29 15:30:06 UTC
