He’s about to start a new trilogy this fall and I’m stoked
The guy knows how to write characters and has one of the best narrator voices I’ve ever witnessed
👌
There’s a particular crew of guys by the time I got to the second book I was reading all their lines aloud in unique voices
Lol. Can't say I've done that one before
Also, best thing: Joe doesn’t talk about politics on twitter at all
He’s also a riot on it
Neither have I
Nice
Yeah Sanderson is mostly fine but every so often it feels like a scene was there for diversity points, but it might just be that he genuinely wanted the scene and couldn't smoothly fit it in
Sanderson in my experience suffers from unsmooth character development
I don’t know how much he’s improved since mistborn but Elend and Vin needed another 50 pages of screen time to justify her love for him
Which is part of why I’m actively avoiding a love interest writing the book I am now
Well post Mistborn trilogy Mistborn is eh
Stormlight Archive hasn't been quite so relationship focused but each book is 1k pages so characters have had time to interact
I didn't find Vin and Elend unreasonable though. They're young and impulsive. If anything it would be a question of how long things would last
I liked them together but It never felt more than curiosity about each other with mild interest attached until Brandon straight up let us know in Vin’s thoughts that she was in love.
Oh do you mean in just the first book?
Yeh
Hence the development aspect
Oh okay. Yeah I think of the first book as the initial interest starting to develop. You hit that point sometimes in a relationship where things just accelerate
He handled it fine in the latter two
I would consider 2 to be development as well, really
But I found the "love" triangle a bit much
You mean Z?
Ye
Was he even really?
They played it like one
Vin never cared about him iirc
With her stay/go shit
Hmm, he never felt like a threat to Elend when I was reading it
I didn't think he was overall
But the way it was written out was weird
And his interest was totally justified with God in his head
Man I loved that aspect so much
The first chapter with him and how he went kaput
Brandon knew exactly what he was doing there and I loved every second of it
But yeah, crippled Victorian Mistborn was good, Western Mistborn is a bit all over the place
Alloy of Law?
Stormlight Archive stumbled a wee bit but otherwise it's been good
Yeah
