You have to compare the costs of the programs to other programs. So even if you assume washington owes the world 1b in societal good, you need to pick the most effective good to participate in. And most people tend to believe that resolving nutrition and water deficiencies as well as vaccines are much more productive
We can reduce america CO2 production drastically easy, by getting rid of all manufacturing. That doesn't make it a good idea
Well, that's not entirely true. The largest sector of emissions is transportation
Industrial makes up a sizable portion of emissions, but transportation and electricity dwarf it.
But both support manufacturing
You have to transport the materials for manufacturing
Where is the line drawn between sectors
Right, but the technology to reduce emissions for transportation is being developed
Its been in development for how long?
Awhile.
I do think battery powered electric trucks are becoming more possible
Exactly, you can't do public planning based on it because there is no schedule for deployment
Well, I don't know how far in development it is.
I think manufacturing is about to be started.
So lets look at NZ for example. They have a low carbon footprint but they outsource most manufacturing to other countries. Should NZ be help accountable for that CO2? Do they have true bragging rights for having a low CO2 footprint?
Well, some people do go nuts about the total carbon footprint
I'm just saying that the technology and market are farther along than what people think
Its irrelevant, because it needs to be cheaper for markets not regulated by government
Well, the thing is that battery powered electric trucks are expected to be cheaper.
Prices for batteries have drastically dropped too

Wth Jojo what have I been missing out on
I haven't gotten to the really gnarly parts, but it goes places.
Thanks @Salacious Swanky Cat very educational and informative. I take it you know know a bit about this in guessing you work in energy/transpo something or other.
@Clive lol. Nope. I’m a civil engineer that works in wastewater treatment. I generally find infrastructure interesting and I’m fairly passionate about environmental issues too. Plus, the changes in the energy industry have been really interesting to follow. I did try to work for an electric utility, but that didn’t work out. Lol
The more I follow what’s happening in energy, the more convinced I become that additional federal regulations are unnecessary to address climate change.
Well I would trust your opinion since it seems professionally based
👏👏👏
I try to stay informed. I can always provide more information too.
