The reason that topic is such a sore spot for me is that I once got into a long conversation with some rando on the internet about that very topic, because I'd made a joke about getting a tattoo of my ex wife's birthday covered with a swastika because it was less offensive.

I mean, first of all, if you can't tell that joke is self deprecating, and not praising the nazis in any way, then there's probably nothing I can say to set you straight, but oh my god did I try.

In the end, when it looked like I was getting through, they just copy pasted the initial comment about "don't make jokes about the nazis, because they are bad, m'kay" and blocked me.

@Avald If you use the official holocaust numbers on wikipedia, one of the safest places per capita to be a Jew was Nazi germany.

Turns out its way easier to do a mass genocide when your country is actively losing the war with another country like in the USSR or is in a country where the partisan issues are so bad almost no supplies can get through and your army all dies in the winter like in Poland.
