there is a specific length though, until I get stronger

2019-06-29 04:52:47 UTC

stronger?! they aint that heavy 😛

2019-06-29 04:52:52 UTC

Fiore or Lichtenauer?

2019-06-29 04:53:15 UTC

@Big T if you are not strong you will be slow with a longer blade.

2019-06-29 04:53:29 UTC

footwork

2019-06-29 04:53:29 UTC

yeah

2019-06-29 04:53:31 UTC

It's not about just lifting the thing lol.

2019-06-29 04:53:52 UTC

Arms and hands have to be strong enough to do what the feet are asking.

2019-06-29 04:54:07 UTC

maybe i just take it for granted

2019-06-29 04:54:08 UTC

footwork helps but you need to work your back and arms and wrists even

2019-06-29 04:54:18 UTC

i know how to swing a sword lol

2019-06-29 04:54:45 UTC

What do you practice Travis?

2019-06-29 04:54:54 UTC

did.

2019-06-29 04:54:59 UTC

kendo and iaido

2019-06-29 04:55:09 UTC

was fun. did tournaments

2019-06-29 04:55:33 UTC

Ah ok. Katana are shorter and lighter than most of the tournament-standard HEMA longswords these days.

2019-06-29 04:55:43 UTC

And yes it is fun XD

2019-06-29 04:55:43 UTC

FALSE

2019-06-29 04:56:03 UTC

how much does a long sword weigh??

2019-06-29 04:56:09 UTC

i cant imagine more than 2-3lbs

2019-06-29 04:56:16 UTC

Katana's are actually shorter and as heavy as longswords

2019-06-29 04:56:17 UTC

Maybe not always lighter but generally shorter @Wyntr

2019-06-29 04:56:22 UTC

yes

2019-06-29 04:56:29 UTC

oh for sure it shorter

2019-06-29 04:56:49 UTC

the long sword generally weighs about 2-3 lbs

2019-06-29 04:56:57 UTC

so about the same then

2019-06-29 04:57:18 UTC

the wooden practice one I have is 1.5 but the POB is 7.75 in from the hilt

2019-06-29 04:57:33 UTC

Some up to 4lbs but those are the really long ones.

2019-06-29 04:57:46 UTC

Pavel Moc feders come in around 4

2019-06-29 04:58:02 UTC

that seems manageable with two hands

2019-06-29 04:58:08 UTC

those can arguably be great swords, depending on the length

2019-06-29 04:58:19 UTC

Yeah they are on the borderline.

2019-06-29 04:58:40 UTC

Ill post my training one in pics

2019-06-29 04:58:49 UTC

I consider it a great sword if it reaches my shoulders or higher from the ground and my Pavel does not.

2019-06-29 04:59:27 UTC

the only caveat i would add to katanas is that there is no one standard size. in general the length is determined by how far your arm is from the floor

2019-06-29 04:59:42 UTC

yeah

2019-06-29 04:59:47 UTC

but there is a range

2019-06-29 04:59:50 UTC

that is to facilitate the drawing and sheathing

2019-06-29 04:59:57 UTC

It is manageable Travis but in sparring the ability to quickly move the point is crucial....

2019-06-29 05:00:11 UTC

think Nodachi when it comes to longswords

2019-06-29 05:00:14 UTC

a good guard should help with that
