therefore it selects for people who are predisposed towards higher IQ
either way your "thought experiment" doesn't disprove that it's not genetic
if anything it just adds another social factor that selects for intelligence
I'll concede that there is a genetic disposition in that regard but I think tradition and values reinforce it. If you put someone who was born with those "genetic values" they would corrupt completely
"genetic values" 🤤
whoops, if you put someone who was born with those "genetic values" somewhere bad, they would corrupt completely
It doesn't matter what you try to call it, it's very well substantiated that your IQ will be close to your parents.
What you're saying is just not true
Them being in a shitty society assuming they're not eating lead
will not make them have a lower G
environmental factors can influence gene expression
that's just not how it works
there's plenty of smart criminals. They have a capacity for violence and they have a high IQ
A lot of the epigenetics stuff is bullshit
but in anycase
thats generally the part that ppl talk about when they say its a mix of nurture/nature
ofc it's both
but to pretend like genetics has no part is stupid
No one would bat an eye that you can't increase some Downy's IQ
strawman bro, no one here has said that
yet somehow people wanna argue with it
just because they dont think 100%, doesnt mean they think 0%
Nobody thinks 100%
But across populations if you act like this isn't factually true you're just being dishonest.
act like what isnt factually true?
or which part isnt factually true?
ah
He's arguing you can increas IQ
which is just not true
and in general people have an IQ close to their parents
and if their parents are on the extremes
Idk I'd say maybe 20% of behavior is genetic, the rest may seem genetic because you bond with your genetic relatives in your formative years
then they start to regress towards the mean
these are things we have lots of data on
well theres that category of crystal iq, which is the amount of knowledge you have compared to your cohorts.
i suppose you could increas that
@Purple look up the Big five personality traits and genetics. It's more like 40% on the low end
but thats only one small part
which is what you get when people have 10 pts their first year after graduating school
but most of those numbers are correlates from SAT and GRE/LSAT
