well top 5

2019-07-09 18:09:12 UTC

I might not watch it, not a fan of blackwashing lol.

2019-07-09 18:09:21 UTC

what

2019-07-09 18:09:33 UTC

who was blackwsahed?

2019-07-09 18:10:31 UTC

MJ isn't the same MJ as the comics @Shadows

2019-07-09 18:11:04 UTC

you mean Michelle wasn't Mary Jane?

2019-07-09 18:11:04 UTC

She's an entirely different character. Personality and role in the story is entirely different.

2019-07-09 18:11:10 UTC

right

2019-07-09 18:11:12 UTC

i knew that

2019-07-09 18:11:22 UTC

I know they aren't portraying it the same.

2019-07-09 18:11:38 UTC

@Shadows they are defacto different characters

2019-07-09 18:11:50 UTC

the only thing is using the nickname MJ

2019-07-09 18:12:25 UTC

And it totally makes sense that Queens in 2016 has a non homogenous cast.

2019-07-09 18:12:45 UTC

That doesn't make sense at all.

2019-07-09 18:12:49 UTC

The plot is still at it's core, very much Spiderman. As is his character arc.

2019-07-09 18:13:18 UTC

what doesn't make sense?

2019-07-09 18:17:24 UTC

I can't speak to the character fully because i've not seen it, but that doesn't mean Marvel doesn't know what its doing. You don't just name 2 characters the same thing and not think it will matter to people.

What i was saying doesn't make sense is DJ's idea that because its Queens means it makes sense to not have a homogeneous cast. This isn't a great justification to change a character (if it is indeed what they wanted to do).

2019-07-09 18:18:18 UTC

im sure the reason for the character change is because Disney and Zendaya and blablabla

2019-07-09 18:18:22 UTC

money reasons

2019-07-09 18:18:40 UTC

After the new Little Mermaid casting, i'll just be happy when they switch it up and make Black Panther, White ~~Power~~ Panther heh.

2019-07-09 18:24:18 UTC

I don't care about that, I just care that the story is well written and the characters are engaging and believable albeit in a fictional world

2019-07-09 18:24:44 UTC

It's because Spiderman has always been about relatability. (At least IMO) and we've had two different Spiderman movies series that did a horrible job of that.

The MCU Spiderman is a modern day revision of his character. Staying true to the core of his character, but in a modern setting with modern challenges.

Everything from Aunt May, to Peter's powers are different from the comic.

2019-07-09 18:25:19 UTC

I just care that the story is well written and the characters are engaging and believable albeit in a fictional world

2019-07-09 18:25:27 UTC

Same thing with the setting, school challenges he faces, the cultural norms of what's cool and whatnot.

2019-07-09 18:26:22 UTC

Michelle being MJ is more fulfilling a trope than it is actually making Zendaya Mary Jane.

2019-07-09 18:26:53 UTC

As for the little mermaid, if it's set in the carribean and they don't use the name Ariel, I've got no problem with the casting choices.

2019-07-09 18:27:14 UTC

And they will never make the white panther because this only goes in one direction in 2019

2019-07-09 18:29:09 UTC

I just care that the story is well written and the characters are engaging and believable albeit in a fictional world

2019-07-09 18:29:24 UTC

and maybe less pandering

2019-07-09 18:59:23 UTC

Maybe the color spectrum is circular and they will keep going and end up wrapping around to white?

2019-07-09 18:59:30 UTC

After all, color is just a social construct

2019-07-09 19:42:20 UTC

KKKolor

2019-07-09 20:58:20 UTC

I like MCU Spider-Man. I don’t really get all the hate.

2019-07-09 20:59:02 UTC

@yuma_8 I uuuhgree with that

2019-07-09 21:05:24 UTC

@Shadows @DJ_Anuz in response to the white panther thing, the clan that M'baku was free was called the "white gorilla tribe" for obvious reasons the movie left that bit out. speaking canonically, it there's no reason or precedent for a white panther except for triggerREEEEing people obvious. Also there's already a White Tiger who they could defs bring into the MCU eventually maybe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Tiger_(comics)

2019-07-09 22:52:49 UTC

There are far too many comic book movies for me to give a single fuck about any of them anymore

2019-07-09 22:54:33 UTC

It helps when they are some of the only hollywood movies you watch

2019-07-09 23:02:02 UTC

I just don't watch many movies. Saves me a lot of time and a not insignificant amount of extra cash

2019-07-09 23:02:45 UTC

Very few movies emerge out of the sea of mediocrity and prove themselves worthwhile

2019-07-09 23:04:35 UTC

I agree

2019-07-09 23:04:58 UTC

Hollywood doesn’t earn my money
