Those aren't proud moments for most?

2017-04-06 00:23:28 UTC

Yes, but the last ones that actually lived are on the verge of no longer living, to put it mildly. maybe this is a chance. but then again, we got the leftist elites in Germany...

2017-04-06 00:23:45 UTC

and Frederick the great as well

2017-04-06 00:23:51 UTC

Wars never have been proud moments for Germans. Never. Even the ones we won.

2017-04-06 00:24:36 UTC

There's a reason why DJT has to remind us Germans constantly that we need to put money into our own defense.

2017-04-06 00:25:05 UTC

Maybe thats just the 'merican in me but that just seems unfortunate in the truest sense of the word

2017-04-06 00:25:11 UTC

it is

2017-04-06 00:25:33 UTC

we take more pride in things that happened in Germany. The fall of the wall in 1989, for example

2017-04-06 00:26:23 UTC

or the rebellion against the GDR in 1953. when people stood up against the socialist regime

2017-04-06 00:26:43 UTC

and those are great moments

2017-04-06 00:27:27 UTC

yes, definitely. every time an authoritarian regime is fought, it is a great moment. even when people are brutally batted down by said regime like it happened in 1953

2017-04-06 00:28:41 UTC

-The bummer train

2017-04-06 00:29:02 UTC

what?

2017-04-06 00:29:23 UTC

It was just a dark note, hard to respond to

2017-04-06 00:30:20 UTC

I will say though, every German I have met has been quite the well mannered person, I do believe some hope lies in that

2017-04-06 00:30:44 UTC

America has a unique history and position in history. I think in general Americans have a hard time understanding other countries and they have a somewhat hard time understanding us.

2017-04-06 00:30:57 UTC

Yeah

2017-04-06 00:31:13 UTC

good manners don't say nothing about political views, though. we got an awful lot of social democrats here

2017-04-06 00:31:23 UTC

True enough

2017-04-06 00:31:41 UTC

The ones I knew have now blocked me on social media after our past election

2017-04-06 00:31:57 UTC

yup. Germans. Free speech is a rather new concept for us...

2017-04-06 00:32:11 UTC

something most of us are not really familiar and comfortable with

2017-04-06 00:32:36 UTC

That is unfortunate

2017-04-06 00:32:46 UTC

Funny enough the differences in other countries histories is what I had to teach today. XD

2017-04-06 00:32:53 UTC

I will say though, the US is a cheap visit and you can practice as much as you like

2017-04-06 00:33:11 UTC

Can't do that in canada

2017-04-06 00:33:26 UTC

I'm plotting my emigration to any country that is sane enough. Switzerland, the UK and the US are in the mix

2017-04-06 00:33:39 UTC

maybe Norway, but that might be too cold for me

2017-04-06 00:34:14 UTC

Well in the US I would say either the Mid Atlantic, South, or the Midwest are great areas to live in work on the whole

2017-04-06 00:34:30 UTC

I wanna live in Wisconsin. I'm a Packers fan, so I gotta go there

2017-04-06 00:34:55 UTC

and yes, it is still warmer than Norway 😉

2017-04-06 00:34:59 UTC

Just know thats a blue state, it may line up with your views though awful well

2017-04-06 00:35:10 UTC

the governor is red though, isn't he?

2017-04-06 00:35:36 UTC

Yes, but its weird how localities and municipalities can differ so much within the state

2017-04-06 00:35:47 UTC

and Trump won Wisconsin over Clinton...

2017-04-06 00:35:59 UTC

Well, trump isn't too red...

2017-04-06 00:36:05 UTC

yeah, I know

2017-04-06 00:36:09 UTC

Not a bad thing

2017-04-06 00:36:12 UTC

but still, he's more red than Clinton

2017-04-06 00:36:17 UTC

Oh by far

2017-04-06 00:36:31 UTC

so this gives me some hope
