WoD is an SJ run set of tabletop games that used to be hippy new agey stuff and a lot more fun

2018-11-17 01:09:02 UTC

FATAL is obviously the best tabletop RPG

2018-11-17 01:09:41 UTC

I started reading through FATAL until I just felt dull inside

2018-11-17 01:10:21 UTC

It'd be funny to do a FATAL parody. GENITAL

2018-11-17 01:10:26 UTC

Meh, in most cases, I think the post 2000 game lines were better than the old ones. Then again, I didn't get into tabletop rpgs at all until like 2007 or so.

Changeling: The Lost is a WoD game about people who have escaped the realm of the Fae, are forever changed and are not necessarily 100% out

2018-11-17 01:11:02 UTC

Promethean: The Created is Frankenstein/Pinocchio

2018-11-17 01:12:08 UTC

The old WoD games always had quite fascinating ideas I think. The SJ element was semi-present but the overwhelming theme was trying to be dark/edgy, so that got drowned out

2018-11-17 01:12:56 UTC

I like the idea of Vampires trying to stop grandpa from going supercannibal and werewolves fighting horrors from deep within the earth, and the power imbalance

2018-11-17 01:13:14 UTC

But at the same time I like New Changeling, Promethean, Slasher

2018-11-17 01:13:16 UTC

I mean, I thought that O-Werewolf was straight up eco terrorist propaganda trash, but I really like the newer version.

2018-11-17 01:13:18 UTC

Mage: The Ascension really captured my imagination at times

2018-11-17 01:13:44 UTC

😐

And I kinda liked the old Vampire, but I really liked how isolated Requiem feels.

2018-11-17 01:14:39 UTC

shhh. I'm trying to understand it

2018-11-17 01:14:49 UTC

Also RIP Shadowrun's quality control

2018-11-17 01:15:03 UTC

5th would be great if they had good formatting and didn't lose all their money to embezzlement

2018-11-17 01:16:56 UTC

I kinda like the idea that these vampires that have spent centuries bound to the place they live in, because they can't necessarily get to another place where they wouldn't starve before dawn comes, and that they wouldn't be any quicker to move around now that they do have the ability to get just about anywhere within twelve hours.

2018-11-17 01:17:56 UTC

Also, as cool as it was in practice, the idea of these globe spanning, vampire run conspiracies, especially the way those conspiracies placed them in charge of every world government except Nazi Germany seemed a little much to me.

@SteelandSouls fwiw it's not hard to get into PnP, and politically it's impossible to actually control. At worst your book will be filled with annoying garbage you just ignore because lolrule0

2018-11-17 02:15:37 UTC

It's a good bit of social recreation for about 2h, and it can be good for writing exercises too if you're into that sort of thing

2018-11-17 02:16:24 UTC

Introduced an absolute newbie to ADnD 2nd and she's been doing fine (mostly because the player never needs to touch most of the rules)

2018-11-17 02:16:25 UTC

Quick question. What's PnP mean? I tried looking it up and Urban Dictionary is giving me the gay orgy definition

2018-11-17 02:16:30 UTC

Pen and Paper

2018-11-17 02:16:37 UTC

Very different

2018-11-17 02:16:50 UTC

I'm afraid to ask, but the gay orgy definition?

2018-11-17 02:17:07 UTC

Apparently PnP also means Party n Play

2018-11-17 02:17:19 UTC

Which is not inaccurate to our current topic I suppose

2018-11-17 02:17:39 UTC

Aside from the fact that it apparently refers to a gay orgy?

2018-11-17 02:17:45 UTC

Right. That

2018-11-17 02:18:14 UTC

The infrastructural requirements of an online DnD campaign are the ability to save/store text files, people to play with and some method of verified rolling really

2018-11-17 02:18:17 UTC

Super good when they use totally innocious sounding phrases to refer to shit like that.

2018-11-17 02:18:34 UTC

So like, unstoppable shitlordery really

2018-11-17 02:18:44 UTC

Of those three, the second is the hardest to aquire.

2018-11-17 02:18:55 UTC

By far.

2018-11-17 02:19:31 UTC

Yeah getting people's schedules lined up for 2h weekly or biweekly is a pain

2018-11-17 02:19:40 UTC

I think the biggest hurdle I have to overcome is finding a world I can get into. DnD is by far the most renowned but just kind of tired of the whole Anglo Mythology aspect of it

2018-11-17 02:20:47 UTC

There's plenty

2018-11-17 02:20:50 UTC

Pick your poison. There's sci fi, cyberpunk, cyberpunk fantasy, Japanese fantasy, western fantasy, noir fantasy, modern fantasy and a multitude of historical games, off the top of my head

2018-11-17 02:21:10 UTC

And by western fantasy I mean Old West with supernatural elements
