the funny thing is ive been through more shit that most of these dudes.
one dude kept going on and on, i told him i'd be happy to sit down and talk with him on campus. his response? "naw bro, i aint touching you with a 10ft pole"
i tried to compromise with a 9ft pole, but he wasnt having it
People work for all kinds of companies/organisations, that have neutral effects (meaning they can be used for either a good or bad reason). Its part of life, if you have a personal problem with it, you get to decide for yourself where your principles stand.
my point exactly
if they dont want to do it, then thats cool.
they werent having that either lol
At my school, we had a professor that showed us a C program that he'd written that he said had been adapted for use in targetting sensors for jets.
I guess that's the difference between California and Texas, eh?
LOL i guess so
i was thinking about the various programs in jets as well. like someones gotta program all that stuff
i guess these kids hate lockheed martin and raytheon
Our professor tells us that he wrote software that might have actually been used to kill people, and no one bats an eye, but in California admitting that you wouldn't mind working on programs with military applications and they all freak out.
That was the next thing I was going to say.
seriously
it was like dealing with 5 year olds
Do these people not realize that some of the big hirers for programmers are Lockheed, L3 and such?
"dont you realize ppl can die?!"
my one word responses triggered them even more
"yup"
these kids are freaking out over lines of code, imagine how theyd react if i told them i gutted a dude several years back with a knife.
lol
Instead I guess they all want to work at Google, which is ironically the company most likely to actually start nuclear war.
^
a caveat with the gutting is it was self defense, but im sure that would fall on deaf ears with them
While i do agree, i'm not sure Google is a company most likely to start a nuclear war... heh.
I've never understood that ideology. If it actually happened, I can't actually claim that I wouldn't just cower in the closet or something, but ideologically speaking, I happen to think that my property is worth more than the life of anyone who would try to take it.
If you actually try and hurt me, and I have the means to stop it? You bet your ass that I will.
whats that? defending oneself?
People that think self defense is reprehensible or something.
oh for sure. i dont get it either. it seems anti-survival
and def agree regarding property rights
agree with you that is
for me personally, it was easy. i never second guessed it, nor do i ever lose sleep over it
Like, if you think you should let people steal your shit just in the interest of self preservation, then fair enough, but if someone is saying to let someone steal it, because their life is worth more than my stuff, then fuck that.
starting around 17 i started getting into a lot of fights. none of that highschool brawling with classmate stuff, but rather real life and death fights with random strangers
ive had all my front teeth shattered twice (thankfully i have a good dentist), shoulder dislocated, knocked out twice, one of which was from getting run over by an SUV in a fight
lol
ive been around
I don't think its anti-survival, i think it has more to do with how we are raising kids expect authorities to be the ones to take care of whatever problem you have.
