Yes, humans are very good at finding justification for any action they may take. But greed does not beat what you can do to a human over evil.

How so? Every conflict in human history is over some type of resource(s).

The progression is usually: I have something I want -> that person has the thing I want -> I find justification for why it's okay for me to forcefully take what I want from them.

Even in chess you're competing over a resource. That resource being the winner of the game.

Winning a game isn't a resource, if it was you can reduces everything down to a resource and never anything else (which isn't helpful).

Sure it is. You could argue that the social status that comes along from being the winner is a resource.

To be a winner means taking the win from someone else. Now not all cases of playing games to win are the cause of greed, but say you have a rival, and the two of you constantly fight over being the better chess player, greed is the underlying emotion of the conflict.

Why would you care about being the better chess player if not for greed?
