That's upwork

2020-01-11 09:14:13 UTC

upwork is full of Indians and Eastern Euros

2020-01-11 09:14:25 UTC

but ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes

2020-01-11 09:14:35 UTC

I was just asking if you've been doing anything

2020-01-11 09:14:38 UTC

job gap also fucks you

2020-01-11 09:14:45 UTC

have you been listing you job gap?

2020-01-11 09:14:54 UTC

Mysql, basic machine learning, database management, data set cleaning, web scraping, API integration

2020-01-11 09:15:08 UTC

if you have, my biggest advice would be LIE about the job gap

2020-01-11 09:15:23 UTC

No. I did all Upwork stuff under my own business so my resume has no job gap

2020-01-11 09:15:26 UTC

if you can't get work for a while I'd recommend at least volunteering a couple times a week so you at least have something for the resume

2020-01-11 09:15:43 UTC

lul

2020-01-11 09:15:55 UTC

have you tried a recruitment agency?

2020-01-11 09:16:01 UTC

that way you at least have something to say when they ask what have you been doing

2020-01-11 09:16:10 UTC

They're vultures.. but beats living on the street...

2020-01-11 09:16:20 UTC

yupp

2020-01-11 09:16:20 UTC

Its not about the resume. My clients compliment me all the time on how skilled I am and many people I've networked with in the field day it's good enough for a mid level job

2020-01-11 09:16:22 UTC

better than broke

2020-01-11 09:16:46 UTC

its something tho bro. youre not exactly nailing the interviews

2020-01-11 09:16:48 UTC

YEah but I said the same about upwork, but he was already doing that apparently

2020-01-11 09:16:56 UTC

Who knows if it's even the interviews

2020-01-11 09:16:58 UTC

it cant be diversity everytime

2020-01-11 09:17:03 UTC

I tried 2 recruitment agencies in the last 6 months and the only offer I got was a receiptionist.

2020-01-11 09:17:11 UTC

really?

2020-01-11 09:17:17 UTC

can you pass as gay?

2020-01-11 09:17:24 UTC

Not every time. Some times I'm just not qualified

2020-01-11 09:17:25 UTC

sadly I'm only half joking

2020-01-11 09:17:39 UTC

_qualified_

2020-01-11 09:17:49 UTC

But when I am qualified and confident I can handle it, the diversity thing keeps happening

2020-01-11 09:17:51 UTC

ive seen a lot of data science jobs requiring masters degrees

2020-01-11 09:18:01 UTC

and i know a lot of applicants have them

2020-01-11 09:18:08 UTC

so youre prob competing with that

2020-01-11 09:18:41 UTC

and theres only a few positions per company to boot

2020-01-11 09:18:54 UTC

Yeah. I'm aware. There are plenty of jobs I've applied to that require a masters. I applied since it couldn't hurt

2020-01-11 09:19:07 UTC

those are prob the ones you mentioned werent qualified huh

2020-01-11 09:19:21 UTC

Since when do you get a response for every application

2020-01-11 09:19:22 UTC

this is why i hate data science, well one of the reasons

2020-01-11 09:19:48 UTC

Do you know C?

2020-01-11 09:19:49 UTC

I don't. I only get about a 5-8% response rate

2020-01-11 09:19:50 UTC

have you tried finance companies? like some quant stuff

2020-01-11 09:19:58 UTC

I don't know C

2020-01-11 09:19:59 UTC

Quants even harder lul
