Hey. I'm in NJ and I can't find work. I'm in the tech industry. I've applied to over a hundred jobs in the last year and I keep getting out hired by more "diverse" candidates that are no where near as qualified. Every company I interview for is extremely liberal and has at least a 70%+ foreign staff. Every time I have an on sight interview Im interviewed by at least one feminist who got put in charge, and they all value "diversity and inclusion" on their websites. I've been officially out of savings, borrowing on credit, and welfare won't cover my monthly expenses. I feel that my girlfriend has lost patience with my joblessness. I've been pushing really hard to find work but it's just not here for me. Does anyone know where I can work permanent work? I'm willing to move to another state.
I was told Dallas TX, but they have basically the same problem there now only they're a few years behind.
Data science, with a background in electrical engineering and applied physics
Yeah. B.s. in Applied Physics. Minor in math
About 5 years total experience in all of those fields
No. I practice and prepare
I started recording them for lawsuit purposes, since many companies are 100% discriminating against me, but I don't have the funds to hire a lawyer right now
Of course. I have to.
Yes.
Only 1
What states or cities are free of this kind of progressive hiring? I've searched around and all the cities (where tech jobs are) are like this
Guys, I need serious help. I'm completely broke
Its 4am and I can't sleep. I just watched a cheerleader feminist get a job of engineer without a degree today over me
Leads? Like phone interviews? Yes. About 2-4 a week
Yes. Upwork is horrible. No one wants to pay what's fair right now since December was slow and January was flooded with new people
Mysql, basic machine learning, database management, data set cleaning, web scraping, API integration
No. I did all Upwork stuff under my own business so my resume has no job gap
Its not about the resume. My clients compliment me all the time on how skilled I am and many people I've networked with in the field day it's good enough for a mid level job
I tried 2 recruitment agencies in the last 6 months and the only offer I got was a receiptionist.
Not every time. Some times I'm just not qualified
But when I am qualified and confident I can handle it, the diversity thing keeps happening
Yeah. I'm aware. There are plenty of jobs I've applied to that require a masters. I applied since it couldn't hurt
I don't. I only get about a 5-8% response rate
I don't know C
There was one financial company in NY I applied to for an IT systems engineer, since I have the background in that. It was owned by Israel with an all female + lesbian executive staff. Not kidding
My math is much stronger than average. I was a few courses from a major in it
They told me they were lesbian
I could see if I can get some coaching at my old university
Some. I get about 2 in person interviews a month. The rest are phone. I think that's normal for living so close to NY
Yeah. Like I said. I was told several times I have a mid level resume. I'm applying to 70% entry level jobs since I don't have a master's
It's usually a 3-4 (sometimes 5) step process
But then I'm under qualified for the better stuff. Lol
I could try interview coaching if I can get it as an alumni
I know IT and science as well. Linux system admin and physics simulations. I put the more relevant ones on my resume when I submit it
I don't know those languages unfortunately, but thanks for the suggestion
Yeah
Ok. I should stop applying for sys admin jobs. I don't see them much anyway. I see a lot of help desk now. It pays low but I apply anyway since I'm in financial danger and can't be a chooser
Angular is a good auggestion, but I'm running out of time to learn new skills
I'm going to be applying for minimum wage jobs next week
Yeah. Selenium was popular a while ago, but that's over saturated with low wage workers now. It's what I was doing on Upwork last year. Now the pay is 30% of what it used to be
Honestly though, a lot of the jobs I'm applying to and interviewing at aren't that complex and cutting edge. A lot of people just want a data guy around who can manage a database and do some analytics
That would be helpful. Everyone here is focused on mysql and python, sometimes java
Like I said. These aren't super advanced positions. I should be able to get them. I see more diverse people with lower qualifications getting them all the time
I stay away from corporate stuff now and focus on medium sized businesses since HR is too heavy of a gatekeeper and there are usually less applicants
How would I solve the over qualification problem?
If I cut out major parts of my resume there will be gaps
Yeah. I figured. Because it pretty much is. I thought I could do my own business, but I wasn't particularly great at the actual business part, only the tech
Btw. How much of a salary so you expect this type of work to go for?
Matching my skill level, something I could realistically get
The highest offer a company was ok so far with was 80k. And, I kid you not, it was for managing a database for HR that used special management software to keep track of demographics and diversity in the hiring process...
Because they didn't select me for the 3rd round
I mean, when they ask the salary on the phone interview, she said it was an acceptable expectation
No one here uses R anymore. I'm getting told by data scientists to ditch it unless you're already good at it or going into biology with it
The salary range for the job I had an in person interview on Thursday was 45-55k. They asked what I wanted and I said 50k is fair for me. He didn't like the response.
But then again, he was Jewish and from Brooklyn lol
I thought it was the final round of interviews. But it turns out there was another round after and I didn't make the list.
Like, this company had only 15 or so employees and a 3 stage interview process before negotiations
Sometimes in the phone interview they ask and won't let me not answer
They're are too many applicants here to play smart with them
I'm a minority here. Someone from India will tell them the answer they want to hear
Lol
Try "data analyst"
Or "data engineer"
Those usually don't have masters degrees. I mean, the person who got a job ahead of me was a cheerleader with a bachelor's who took a data science training course
A bachelor's in finance nonetheless
Filter by entry or mid level in NJ
Well, the boss of that particular company was an intersectional feminist who regularly spoke to corporations about hiring more women
I'm willing to go as low as minimum wage
How?
Im about to lost my home and have been trying everything and still struggling. Whenever I see someone get a gig through politics or their demographics I go ballistic
It is, if I can land contracts.
Yeah, basically that. I have the membership which I pay for and see the bids. I've seen people bid $100 for a job worth $2k...
I made by own general computer repair business this month for going out and helping local shops and delis with computer stuff (old people help, like geek squad).
I'm almost done with gathering all materials. Paperwork is all done. That might help support me
It might be. I'll see. But I'm willing to do anything right now
Hasn't most of that been automated by now?
Square space asked me what my gender pronoun was in the interview lol. Sorry about bringing sjw up again. But that one was a real shocker to hear
Ok. I can try looking at that. Good suggestion
None
Ok, so what I gather, I would need to 1. See if I can still get interview coaching to make sure I'm not screwing it up, 2. Look for webdev in python, and 3. Possibly remove some skills for jobs I'm overqualified for
Did I miss a suggestion that was offered?
You're right
How do you guys cope?
Gotcha
Honestly, with the overbearing sjw stuff in this state, I feel like I'm compelled to throw some secret signal at people like "you seeing this shit too?"
Ok, thanks for the tips guys.
I'll try my best to implement them
Take care and good night
You guys are great
What was that guy's username? I have a job for him
@ovid I know someone
@Ovid I know someone
Hey everybody. How we all doing?
Anyone else stopped watching Tim Pool. Lately I feel he's been talking more to his censors instead of his auidience. His opinions are no longer genuine or consistent. I also noticed he'll often have an article up and making a bunch of commentary on the headline before reading it for the first time on camera. I can't watch it anymore. Subverse is good though
Yeah. There are times when I would watch the video, get halfway through listening to his randomized rambling and then just say "screw it, I'll find and read the article myself"
20 million transaction
THAT'S MA NAME. DON'T WEAR IT OUT!
I don't get the joke. Sorry
Being poor is a social construct
If I get rekt, I wont be a social construct anymore
