I know some people looking for someone but they're not looking for a python programmer

2020-01-11 09:28:23 UTC

Assembler, C, C++

2020-01-11 09:28:33 UTC

I know IT and science as well. Linux system admin and physics simulations. I put the more relevant ones on my resume when I submit it

2020-01-11 09:28:57 UTC

I don't know those languages unfortunately, but thanks for the suggestion

2020-01-11 09:28:59 UTC

Linux system admin stuff is really weak right now for a full time job, all the automation, virtualization, stuff like docker

2020-01-11 09:29:07 UTC

Programmers are doing their own, "system administration"

2020-01-11 09:29:28 UTC

Yeah

2020-01-11 09:29:45 UTC

Unless you have like system architecture side of system admin you're going to have a hard time

2020-01-11 09:29:52 UTC

you're competeing with lower wage workers

2020-01-11 09:30:45 UTC

What's the big JavaScript framework now? Angular?

2020-01-11 09:30:50 UTC

that's an option..

2020-01-11 09:30:52 UTC

Ok. I should stop applying for sys admin jobs. I don't see them much anyway. I see a lot of help desk now. It pays low but I apply anyway since I'm in financial danger and can't be a chooser

2020-01-11 09:31:49 UTC

Flask and Django?

2020-01-11 09:31:52 UTC

Angular is a good auggestion, but I'm running out of time to learn new skills

2020-01-11 09:31:52 UTC

Is that still getting used?

2020-01-11 09:32:07 UTC

I'm going to be applying for minimum wage jobs next week

2020-01-11 09:32:15 UTC

I would say look for some python web shit

2020-01-11 09:33:14 UTC

Yeah. Selenium was popular a while ago, but that's over saturated with low wage workers now. It's what I was doing on Upwork last year. Now the pay is 30% of what it used to be

2020-01-11 09:34:34 UTC

Honestly though, a lot of the jobs I'm applying to and interviewing at aren't that complex and cutting edge. A lot of people just want a data guy around who can manage a database and do some analytics

2020-01-11 09:34:46 UTC

@Big T maybe can hook you up with a contact

2020-01-11 09:35:00 UTC

everyone I know is looking for C, C++ people

2020-01-11 09:35:30 UTC

all my stuff is in berkeley CA

2020-01-11 09:35:40 UTC

Maybe, post your CV remove identifying info

2020-01-11 09:35:41 UTC

That would be helpful. Everyone here is focused on mysql and python, sometimes java

2020-01-11 09:36:50 UTC

A lot of the good python jobs are rewriting old python in C so it's faster lul

2020-01-11 09:37:20 UTC

Like I said. These aren't super advanced positions. I should be able to get them. I see more diverse people with lower qualifications getting them all the time

2020-01-11 09:38:03 UTC

@Big T 's point about being overqualified comes into that equation too

2020-01-11 09:38:04 UTC

I stay away from corporate stuff now and focus on medium sized businesses since HR is too heavy of a gatekeeper and there are usually less applicants

2020-01-11 09:38:27 UTC

How would I solve the over qualification problem?

2020-01-11 09:39:04 UTC

If I cut out major parts of my resume there will be gaps

2020-01-11 09:39:30 UTC

remove work experience when applying to lower level jobs

2020-01-11 09:39:52 UTC

Well TBH putting stuff on there with your own company looks like a gap to most HR departments anyway

2020-01-11 09:40:49 UTC

Yeah. I figured. Because it pretty much is. I thought I could do my own business, but I wasn't particularly great at the actual business part, only the tech

2020-01-11 09:41:34 UTC

The other thing is unless the upwork shit is less than you'd get at a minimum wage job

2020-01-11 09:41:38 UTC

why not take some more gigs there

2020-01-11 09:41:51 UTC

Btw. How much of a salary so you expect this type of work to go for?

2020-01-11 09:42:20 UTC

Matching my skill level, something I could realistically get

2020-01-11 09:43:05 UTC

I've no idea for data science

2020-01-11 09:43:36 UTC

The highest offer a company was ok so far with was 80k. And, I kid you not, it was for managing a database for HR that used special management software to keep track of demographics and diversity in the hiring process...

2020-01-11 09:44:00 UTC

why didnt you accept it?

2020-01-11 09:44:17 UTC

Because they didn't select me for the 3rd round
