2019-11-20 22:31:41 UTC

Also the thing I said was required was Illegality not violence

2019-11-20 22:31:56 UTC

That was embarrassing

2019-11-20 22:32:15 UTC

Also Violence of some kind would be required otherwise it would be the government peacefully handing over power which would not be considered a coup.

2019-11-20 22:32:27 UTC

@Reclan So in this instance it would be definitionally wrong.

2019-11-20 22:33:00 UTC

i think thats naive

2019-11-20 22:34:09 UTC

It requires illegality, and again as far as I'm aware violence is inherently required.

2019-11-20 22:34:58 UTC

I mean on the Illegality aspect alone Bolivia would not be a coup since it was legal.

2019-11-20 22:35:15 UTC

2019-11-20 22:36:47 UTC

So wiki is using a weird defintion of "the overthrow of an existing government by non-democratic means"

2019-11-20 22:37:49 UTC

Which would still not make the bolivian transition as a Coup as the existing government has not been removed, with the president stepping down you could argue that it is "Undemocratic" but again the government itself was not overthrown.

2019-11-20 22:38:17 UTC

Using this definition and calling it a "coup" would imply anytime a democratic leader steps down it is a "Coup" for being undemocratic.
