accounting for lifetime costs, wind and solar are cheapest: <https://www.ucsusa.org/clean-energy/renewable-energy/barriers-to-renewable-energy#.W-s1fN-YVuR> <https://www.lazard.com/perspective/levelized-cost-of-energy-2017/> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/418850379518705675/642020024625922088/chart-1-finally.png However, if costs over the lifespan of energy projects are taken into account, wind and utility-scale solar can be the least expensive energy generating sources, according to asset management company Lazard. As of 2017, the cost (before tax credits that would further drop the costs) of wind power was $30-60 per megawatt-hour (a measure of energy), and large-scale solar cost $43-53/MWh. For comparison: energy from the most efficient type of natural gas plants cost $42-78/MWh; coal power cost at least $60/MWh.

So does wind and solar. Tons of government intervention in solar and wind

2020-01-09 19:22:13 UTC

Reminder that mining for materials to make wind and solar tech is more pollutant than nuclear

in every country but the USA and Germany, nuclear power overnight construction costs per kWh stayed flat or declined -- suggesting that the multi-reactor sites and standardized designs of these countries were efficient: <https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0301421516300106> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/418850379518705675/614113743793815624/1-s2.png The metric OCC includes the costs of the direct engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services that the vendors and the architect-engineer team are contracted to provide, as well as the indirect owner’s costs, which include land, site preparation, project management, training, contingencies, and commissioning costs. The OCC excludes financing charges known as Interest During Construction.

from my reading

2020-01-09 19:23:11 UTC

We shouldn't use death drugs I agree. We should use a rope or a bullet

2020-01-09 19:23:13 UTC

something like 90% of the emissions growth is projected to be in the developing world

2020-01-09 19:23:21 UTC

god why does this lady make so many claims

2020-01-09 19:23:35 UTC

as africa and parts of asia continue to industrialize

2020-01-09 19:23:46 UTC

so we cant trust the mud people to use nuclear

2020-01-09 19:23:53 UTC

so solar is the way forward

2020-01-09 19:23:57 UTC
2020-01-09 19:25:13 UTC

Disneyland has permission to build a nuclear plant

2020-01-09 19:25:22 UTC

not from the state

2020-01-09 19:25:28 UTC

from their own municipality

2020-01-09 19:25:30 UTC

my position isn't that nuclear is bad, I just have concerns about feasability.

2020-01-09 19:25:31 UTC

c:

2020-01-09 19:25:32 UTC

which they control

2020-01-09 19:25:36 UTC

so its kind of not a thing

2020-01-09 19:25:37 UTC

i'm glad the convo went somewhere else tho

2020-01-09 19:25:38 UTC

just a big meme

2020-01-09 19:26:28 UTC

local monopoly does this as well @Rise Again

2020-01-09 19:26:44 UTC

Boring conversation. Also allowing women to talk is a mistake

2020-01-09 19:26:54 UTC

you're a woman dana

2020-01-09 19:27:04 UTC

this doesnt happen with utility companies bc land can only be occupied by 1 thing at a time, it's naturally monopolistic. @Rise Again

2020-01-09 19:27:06 UTC

Ussr and uk have good healthcare <:watching:644902704388505611> <:watching:644902704388505611> <:watching:644902704388505611>

2020-01-09 19:27:07 UTC

Dana pls 😭

2020-01-09 19:27:27 UTC

Lmao at uk having good healthcare just lol

2020-01-09 19:27:38 UTC

@Danacrag if you wanna debate, debtae

2020-01-09 19:28:06 UTC

You dont argue with intellectuals, you stab them

2020-01-09 19:29:37 UTC

Just change tax and subsiding incentives so they build nuclear

2020-01-09 19:29:45 UTC

I think I get what you're saying.
Currently, the capital investment needed to construct a gas/coal power plant is lower than Nuclear & more profitable, therefor people don't make the investment into Nuclear even though it'd be better in the long term. @Rise Again

2020-01-09 19:30:23 UTC

So by eating the capital cost, why would you build a coal/gas plant for 1mil if you could build nuclear for free.

2020-01-09 19:30:47 UTC

am i misunderstanding? @Rise Again

2020-01-09 19:31:04 UTC

Because I am a girl and so I cant talk about politics

2020-01-09 19:31:36 UTC

Yes women should cover their heads at all times

2020-01-09 19:32:04 UTC

Inshaanya

2020-01-09 19:32:50 UTC

Because I dont want my parents to hear. Also my headphones need charged

2020-01-09 19:32:52 UTC

@actual_communist_boi Can i have those studies? Genuinely curious

2020-01-09 19:32:58 UTC

I'd debate you later
