as far as audio goes you really can't upgrade from decent 16/44.1 with dither, shit you won't even find any content that takes full advantage of that

you're paying for bragging rights and/or a pretty box if you upgrade from that tier

"better" in the context of a dac means higher dynamic range and wider band of frequencies it can perfectly reproduce

pcm2704 will perfectly reproduce any signal under 22khz with dynamic range under 96dB, it's mathematic fact

tbh pcm2704 is actually more accurate than my function generator

since i have an oldschool analog one

goes up to 2MHz but it also has some distortion the ele does not even at low audio frequencies

not that said distortion and noise would be audible at all, mind you
