yea the mediakek is named soemthin else
anyways i found another ad thats shipped from AUS so ill get my new phone pretty soon
this thing would make a great octoprint box tbh
8 cores so clicing will be fairly fast
What could you use one of those for?
i'd run octoprint on it
and drive my 3d printer with it instead of doing the sd shuffle
That sounds nice
if it had two ethernet ports i'd make it my ~~bitch~~ router
i mean, granted, my 1700 will slice _way_ faster
but then i have to take the sd card out of the reader, walk to 3d printer, put sd card in, menus of 3d printer, THEN print
octoprint i just upload a file and it slices and pritns right there, with web interface
and streaming video
so i can print and monitor pritns from phone and everything
I've been thinking of getting like, a thing to just run servers and services on
No idea what to get though
tbh an sbc isn't great for that unless you're wanting little dedicated boxes/clusters
i have a fistful of em running a few web servers, reverse proxy, and dns
and an irc bouncer
That's exactly the stuff I want
like $300 and way way more capable, esp. if you just virtualise everything
they are actively bad for web servers if you have any significant amount of traffic
Whoa, I don't need like an actual whole server
mine are running a blog and a shitposty ytmnd-type site
I'll just let the corporations own my data
it's worth it if only for learning imo
also having an actual vm host is nice
you have to buy a lot less hardware if you can just virtualise most of your homelab, and honestly that's how a lot of shit in the real world is done anyway
Yeah
downside: power, if you're only doing a few very lightweight things like dns and irc bouncing arm sbcs will shit on any x86 server out there for power consumption
That's a pretty big thing for me too
The power bills here are insane
All I have in mind is a DNS and IRC bouncer
landlord subsidizes my power bill then it's split four ways
so i'm fine there
I'm using cheapo ($10) hp thin client box at home
has proper sata, gbit ethernet, x86 via nano with very low power draw
granted that ARM SBCs will shit on it when it comes to cpu performance, but still
it could suit your use case
That sounds nice
