@toaster nothing wrong with 3G, for basic phones tbh

2017-10-09 18:39:55 UTC

There's nothing wrong with 3g in the same way there's nothing wrong with USB 2.0

2017-10-09 18:40:06 UTC

Sure they're both perfectly functional technologies

2017-10-09 18:40:26 UTC

But their replacements are much better so there's really no point in using them nowadays

2017-10-09 18:41:14 UTC

4G sucks batteries like mad and isn't avalible everywhere. Also there are plenty of people who only use thier smartphone for the occasional game and email.

2017-10-09 18:42:05 UTC

I have a shortcut on my phone for "2G only" and "Auto 2/3/4 G" so I can leave it on 2G when it's in my pocket because @johnfrum is right

2017-10-09 18:42:31 UTC

there is a really notable battery drain differences when not using high speed networks on idle

2017-10-09 18:42:41 UTC

>4g sucks batteries
never experienced that honestly.

2017-10-09 18:42:50 UTC

Interesting if true

2017-10-09 18:43:07 UTC

I assume it is not because of the network but because your phone does more stuff in the background when bandwith is available

2017-10-09 18:43:18 UTC

like, sync, look for updates, etc

2017-10-09 18:43:25 UTC

Yeah it might depend on how stringent you are woth background apps

2017-10-09 18:43:41 UTC

I miss PDAs

2017-10-09 18:44:12 UTC

I miss s60

2017-10-09 18:44:22 UTC

s60 was my jam

2017-10-09 18:44:35 UTC

Do they make chink versions of those?

2017-10-09 18:45:07 UTC

The Nokia phones I mean

2017-10-09 18:45:40 UTC

I have a copy of the whole symbian source on my hard drive because the whole system, kernel etc is great for didactical purposes

2017-10-09 18:45:56 UTC

if you want to get a chink phone and try to port symbian on it, let me know

2017-10-09 18:46:16 UTC

especially if you manage to obtain a low-end phone with similar hardware to the nokias of that time

2017-10-09 18:47:01 UTC

I also have a system dump of my old symbian phone which had a Philips Nexperia PNX4008 CPU for the blobs

2017-10-09 18:48:31 UTC

[Doubt]

2017-10-09 18:57:32 UTC

>rates it 3 stars

2017-10-09 18:57:53 UTC

This is why companies made it binary

2017-10-09 18:58:43 UTC

I'm a little late to the party, but what position did you apply for at Xiaomi, @porco ?

2017-10-09 18:59:07 UTC

@Austin VR Project Manager

2017-10-09 18:59:13 UTC

Damn

2017-10-09 18:59:15 UTC

Sound cool.

2017-10-09 18:59:23 UTC

Do you have a lot of experience in that area?

2017-10-09 18:59:48 UTC

my only reference is that I used to lead an AR project for BMW

2017-10-09 19:00:12 UTC

Quite cool. Did it get known?

2017-10-09 19:00:16 UTC

The project

2017-10-09 19:00:18 UTC

in Germany yes

2017-10-09 19:00:31 UTC

Name of the project or video?

2017-10-09 19:00:32 UTC

but not for the mainstream, more for BMW motorbike enthusiasts

2017-10-09 19:00:38 UTC

it was a print project

2017-10-09 19:00:42 UTC
