the only time I ever got charged VAT is when I ordered stuff from USA

friend sent a keyboard from the US, he paid $20 for shipping

on chink orders, never

turns out I had to pay another 40

then I ordered a few prints from massdrop and had to pay 20 extra for a 40 euro purchase

so that was (not) nice
