£32 Windows tablet update: the paltry amount of storage and RAM, and the low speed of the storage, is sometimes painful. This is a really cool machine for just watching YouTube or Netflix or whatever in bed, though.
The 2GB RAM means it does a lot of swapping to disk if you try to do more than one or two light things or have 4+ browser tabs open, and the page file reaches about 2GB, so you've lost 2GB of your meagre 32GB storage just from the page file.
I've nuked the Android partitions to give Windows more space. In its default configuration, Windows had about 3GB free, which wasn't enough even to install some bigger Windows Updates (or the latest build). Also installed fresh Insider build to hopefully get rid of any chink backdoors. I'm very happy with this thing, now, for £30. It's impressive how much you can buy for that these days. This is essentially a fully working modern computer.

Also, received Mi Band 2 that I paid £7 for. I like it a lot. The sleep analysis stuff seems cool.

@Adam W link to tablet pls

2017-12-11 09:11:11 UTC

I got it on a ridiculous flash sale. It's normally £60-£80 https://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_598248.html

2017-12-11 09:14:02 UTC

damn that's great

2017-12-11 09:14:22 UTC

The display's really nice, too. Perfect bedtime video machine.

2017-12-11 09:14:31 UTC

it's not chink shit but the lowest I've gotten a tablet for was the 2015 fire and it has half the ram that thing has

2017-12-11 09:14:51 UTC

how much did you get that for?

2017-12-11 09:15:00 UTC

30 US

2017-12-11 09:15:03 UTC

2017-12-11 09:15:58 UTC

2017-12-11 09:16:47 UTC

yeah, did you try the android partition before nuking it? probably ran a lot better than the windows one

2017-12-11 09:21:09 UTC

I'm sure it would have dealt with the low RAM better than Windows does, but I'm not really interested in Android on tablets tbh.

2017-12-11 09:21:18 UTC

wow

2017-12-11 09:21:39 UTC

@Cole nitecore charger, they're gonna charge very slowly if you charge them all at once

2017-12-11 09:22:15 UTC

Wanted it to see how far I could push it as an actual PC. At some point I am going to see if it's possible to run Photoshop and maybe Premiere on it for shits and also giggles.

2017-12-11 09:27:19 UTC

@Adam W can you tell me which WiFi module is in there?

2017-12-11 09:28:47 UTC

I'll have a look when i get home in 8 hours

2017-12-11 09:29:12 UTC

@Adam W I like LXDE for low ram machines.

some huge bars / icons on xhidpi xfce and that thing would be amazing

2017-12-11 09:29:30 UTC

i've heard the biggest PITA will probably be finding touch screen drivers for linux

2017-12-11 09:29:38 UTC

nono

2017-12-11 09:29:48 UTC

the wacom driver usually works for all

2017-12-11 09:30:07 UTC

I've also tried puppy linux but it wasnt for me

2017-12-11 09:30:20 UTC

i'm pretty sure the wifi is something from realtek. it's also pretty bad. very low range.

2017-12-11 09:30:25 UTC

but yeah i'll check the actual model when i get in

2017-12-11 09:30:44 UTC
