It's just that I would also like to switch out my laptop for a Xiaomi one, but I'm concerned of potential overages from DHL being goys with customs and fees

2018-05-13 13:28:29 UTC

i long since stopped buying any laptop but thinkpads

2018-05-13 13:28:42 UTC

But the MiBook looks so fucking good!

2018-05-13 13:28:48 UTC

And battery life to match as well

2018-05-13 13:29:05 UTC

looking good doesn't matter if it shits the bed like all the laptops do or explodes from being placed on a table too hard

2018-05-13 13:29:15 UTC

true that

2018-05-13 13:29:22 UTC

get a used thinkpad for 300 bucks, whichever is currently at that price in the used market, it'll serve you well

2018-05-13 13:29:41 UTC

But I'd want to actually get better or more performance from my current laptop

2018-05-13 13:29:54 UTC

a thinkpad won't cut it

2018-05-13 13:30:02 UTC

laptop and performance are two words that people need to learn to disassociate

2018-05-13 13:31:01 UTC
2018-05-13 13:31:16 UTC

I would like to switch to something lighter but still comparably capable

2018-05-13 13:32:01 UTC

i got a used thinkpad T520 three years ago or so at that 300 bucks price point and it served me well. I only got it AFTER i bought a brand spanking new HP laptop for 300 bucks that managed to completely kill itself THRICE in SIX months, so bad that the ON button just did absolutely nothing. i gave it back after the third repair, got my money back and went to buy the used thinkpad and it never had a single hitch since

2018-05-13 13:33:55 UTC

also if the laptop isnt heavy enough to kill small animals by being dropped on them from hip height it's SHIT

2018-05-13 13:34:22 UTC

That's one way of looking at my problem

2018-05-13 13:34:35 UTC

So you have Mi Book for about NZD$1200

2018-05-13 13:34:45 UTC

And Mi Gaming for about NZD$1900

2018-05-13 13:35:00 UTC

Mi Gaming doesn't have soldered ram, meaning the ram upgrade would be much cheaper

2018-05-13 13:35:14 UTC

and it, to be quite honest, looks pretty fucking good

2018-05-13 13:35:18 UTC

minus the rgb

2018-05-13 13:35:26 UTC

fucking soyboys and their rgb pandering

2018-05-13 13:36:11 UTC

you can always jerry-rig rgb yourself

2018-05-13 13:36:18 UTC

no

2018-05-13 13:36:20 UTC

that's what your soldering iron is good for

2018-05-13 13:36:25 UTC

more like I wouldn't want the rgb

2018-05-13 13:36:32 UTC

but still backlit

2018-05-13 13:42:53 UTC

yeah, it's just deciding which one to buy before the year is up is a tough choice

2018-05-13 13:43:07 UTC

I get NZD$1000 per year of study to buy course related items

2018-05-13 13:43:12 UTC

from the government

2018-05-13 13:44:20 UTC

so I can probably get one and subsidise the other myself with my own cash that I don't really have

2018-05-13 13:55:19 UTC

jesus

2018-05-13 13:55:40 UTC

too many words?

2018-05-13 13:55:44 UTC

sorry

2018-05-13 13:55:56 UTC

no, that you get so much money subsidized

2018-05-13 13:56:06 UTC

for any student studying

2018-05-13 13:56:11 UTC

textbooks are expensive

2018-05-13 13:56:33 UTC

>goes to genlib to try and find a ebook variant of the textbook for free

2018-05-13 13:58:18 UTC

hell, people buy concert tickets with that money

2018-05-13 13:58:27 UTC

>buying textbooks

2018-05-13 13:58:27 UTC

because there are so few checks and balances

2018-05-13 13:58:32 UTC
