chrome before uses to have a big problem where most html5 stuff would be pushed into software decode somehow, maybe they upgdated it or maybe you are using a newer phone.
it may even be that nobody can actually hardware accelerate their shit formats

the last test I did was quite some time and it was comparing newpipe to using the chrome browser
and newpipe drew less battery and heated up much less when watching
samsung are making big gains though with their new arch
