its a double edged sword

2018-09-27 13:08:18 UTC

what is your opinion on "mini PCs"

2018-09-27 13:08:31 UTC

indeed, i'm glad my phone only has ai/beauty stuff on the selfie cam.

2018-09-27 13:08:36 UTC

I am ordering a "Mini PC" from chinkland

2018-09-27 13:08:40 UTC

Will report back on it

2018-09-27 13:09:00 UTC

@Frederica Bernkastel i like them. i have a beelink x45 arriving in a few days.

2018-09-27 13:09:14 UTC

the factory has just finalized the production planning and they will start making 100, 300, units a week up until 1000 units so I will have it shipped by Ddecember I hope.

2018-09-27 13:09:31 UTC

it seems good but i've talked about it with a friend and he says it might be better to make your own PC out of cheap parts as a torrent machine

2018-09-27 13:09:55 UTC

Its a small mini PC with 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 soldered on the board, some eMMC, M.2 SSD slot and Intel Celeron N4100.

2018-09-27 13:10:05 UTC

Probably better, I just got this thing since it was interesting.

2018-09-27 13:10:13 UTC

yes it is kinda interesting

2018-09-27 13:10:29 UTC

for the record I paid like 150 USD for this

2018-09-27 13:10:38 UTC

also pretty cheap

2018-09-27 13:10:44 UTC

also depends, this one uses much less electricity than your old shit.

2018-09-27 13:10:50 UTC

For torrent you can just laugh off everything

2018-09-27 13:10:57 UTC

I use a Orange Pi PC for torrenting, with 5 TB attached

2018-09-27 13:11:00 UTC

It ran two years

2018-09-27 13:11:06 UTC

still running fine, on mixza sd card for OS

2018-09-27 13:11:15 UTC

It handles 100Mbps transfers just fine

2018-09-27 13:11:27 UTC

You dont even have to worry, literally 1 GB RAM and weak chink ARM Allwinner CPU

2018-09-27 13:11:53 UTC

if i made a similar spec intel nuc, it would cost me €98/$116 usd more. not factoring in win 10 cost which my pc ships with.

2018-09-27 13:11:55 UTC

seems like a pretty nice setup

2018-09-27 13:12:21 UTC

Well I am upgrading now. THe reason for this is simple thoo. The HDD makes noise

2018-09-27 13:13:01 UTC

So I decided a cheap shit device with the HDD offsite from where I sleep is a good idea, while my main stuff can stay in my bedroom since SSD.

2018-09-27 13:13:14 UTC

but tbh this is the first time I am buying chink mini PC server

2018-09-27 13:13:27 UTC

I heard the BIOS has no documentation so far and its hard to get Linux running

2018-09-27 13:13:30 UTC

oh boy this gonna be F U N

2018-09-27 13:13:34 UTC

oh boy

2018-09-27 13:13:40 UTC

so beware

2018-09-27 13:13:45 UTC

But it will run, just its chink BIOS

2018-09-27 13:13:50 UTC

mine has an apollo lake j4005, 6gb ram, 128gb ssd and a 2.5" disk slot if needed. $226 usd.

2018-09-27 13:13:55 UTC

there is a difference between American Megatrends and chink BIOS with a million options

2018-09-27 13:14:01 UTC

if it has documentation it will probably be in chink

2018-09-27 13:14:10 UTC

nah they have mostly English customers

2018-09-27 13:14:21 UTC

they are just using up so much time actually making the product since they fucked up

2018-09-27 13:14:38 UTC

they blew up the delivery schedule by far as they didnt realize how advanced their PC became

2018-09-27 13:14:46 UTC

already made one, which was much simpler, you see.

2018-09-27 13:15:13 UTC

sounds nice @Absolute Kubica I cant get so cheap stuff.

2018-09-27 13:16:01 UTC

😬 it would be cheaper if i had it shipped from china but i didn't want to wait 3 weeks.

2018-09-27 13:17:38 UTC

used chink shit is absolute worst though

2018-09-27 13:18:02 UTC

I remember anon getting a mobo from chinkland that had CORRODED == RUST on it
