hang on this has already been done
I mean, sure, is it possible that Aristotle, or someone else would have said the same things had there never been a Plato? Presumably. But we could never know. That's why historical analysis that asks "What might have happened had this person/event/phenomena not existed?" is always purely speculative. Because, we can't empirically test history against anything else.
Even if you had a supercomputer to simulate alternative histories, the computer script to simulate those events would have to make assumptions about how historical events interact.
So, the only "scientific" way to talk about history is purely observational.
And historically speaking, the fact that Plato, and especially the Republic, was foundational to the Western philosophical tradition is undeniable. Much of Aristotle's work was commentaries on Plato.
be ready for an essay boys:
And that's why I'm doing a series on the Republic. Because, I come from the Western Philosophical Tradition and so understanding my thought, (and my interpretation of other's thought) requires some familiarity with the basic touchstones of that tradition.
a series? where, may I ask?
On my channel.
youtube.
youtube?
could I has link
you should sub him on patreon too
nothing personally against you Benedict , but your patreon count is a little bit pathetic
I've just started teaching myself on ancient/classical philosophy, so a series like that would be really interesting for me, so thanks
Yeah, hopefully I'll get book I out this week. And hopefully every two weeks or so add something to that series.
*such a tiny little patreon with so much potential i want to water and watch it grow*
and, @Clement_Down, it would be interesting to know what the ratio between youtube subscribers to patrons on patreons is for the average youtuber. I mean, 150/1 is approx what I'm looking at, which I would assume is average for youtubers who don't do patreon rewards. I mean, for comparison, Sargon is approx 240/1. Metorkur is 260/1. Distributist is 250/1. Randomercam is 200/1.
Now, of course, their channels are much bigger compared to mine.
also $$ vs the number of patreons vs subscribers
distributist and AA have a relatively *low* $$/patreon count last time i checked
Short Fat Otaku has the highest (lowest) I saw of the one's I looked at, 485/1
my pet theory is cus he does his video game stream
if he focuses on just his research vids, i think he could have better patreon count
his researched vids are very good. the latest one on the asian lady hired by NYTimes was the best video i've seen on the subject
obvious that takes more time and effort
idk you do you ben
im just here for some keks
Yeah, if there's a finance/econ major who needs ideas for an interesting project, it might be interesting in looking at the trade-off between super-chat/ad revenue/and patron/ based youtube channels.
Channels that use superchats as primary sources of income will focus primarily on streams, which require less effort to produce than videos, meaning it's more lucrative, for less effort, but they won't have a more reliable patreon based income.
In other words, a heavily patron based channel could survive doing a few bad streams, whereas a super-chat based channel probably won't.
At least those our my guesses. I haven't studied the issue enough to have an informed opinion.
Interestingly, Thunderfoot is just under 800/1, but his patrons seem to give a higher average than other youtubers, cause he's making almost the same as people like Sargon and metokur from patrons.
i am not familiar with thunderfoot's content to make any conjectures about those numbers
Why do I constantly get muted?
yes Liberalism is the answer goyim.
Reagan was a weak president. so was FDR.
