WORLDWIDE RESISTANCE TO SEXISM

In Ireland, Argentina, Spain, the US ... hundreds of thousands of people came on the streets: for the right to abortion, against the rape culture and against sexism in the workplace. Globally, more and more people are turning their anger into active resistance. Symbolic solutions and vague promises do not help us! On 8 March we will come to the streets with our requirements.

Ghent suffers with a child poverty of 20%. This translates into more and more poorly filled or even empty bread boxes at school. Even with social corrections, a single mother who works full-time on a minimum wage pays a monthly school account of 110 euros in primary school (for meals and out-of-school care). The city government can guarantee EVERY CHILD A FREE HEALTHY WARM MEAL: a huge weapon against child poverty, with great health impact and future chances for children

Savings on public services affect women as employees but also as users. The harrowing shortages in urban childcare mean that in some Ghent neighborhoods less than 1 in 5 toddlers can turn to income-related care! Because women are more often employed in poorer paying sectors and jobs, they are often forced to stay at home to carry out care tasks. This forms a barrier to their financial independence. We demand 1000 EXTRA PLACES IN THE URBAN CHILD CARE!

Young women in poverty often have no access to hygienic products. The FREE OFFERING OF MONTHLY BELTS AND TAMPONS in schools fulfills a basic need in terms of health and participation at school and in society. Overworked teachers, overcrowded classes, a lack of individual guidance through austerity policies limit the crucial ROLE OF SCHOOLS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SEXISM AND DISCRIMINATION. We demand FREE (WOMEN) CONDOMS, STANDARD LESSONS, SEXUAL EDUCATION (with attention to sexuality, gender identities, mutual consent etc.) and the NECESSARY INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION.

Due to the increase in precarious, part-time and flexijobs, many workers are living in difficult situations. These conditions make it more difficult for victims to respond to violence and sexual harassment: at work, on the street, but also at home. COLLECTIVE EMPLOYMENT REDUCTION while retaining wages and additional recruitments, a REAL INCREASE IN THE MINIMUM LESSON and pensions etc. are crucial for a healthy work-life balance and for the independence of women. Also the residential crisis in Ghent, with 11,000 people on the waiting list for a social housing and hallucinating prices on the housing market makes the lives of the weakest more difficult. AFFORDABLE AND QUALITY LIVING SHOULD BE A RIGHT.

AGAINST ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION

Sexism, such as racism, discrimination against LGBT people, transphobia and all forms of discrimination, serves those who have an interest in a divide-and-rule policy. The fight against sexism concerns us all! It is not the men who 'earn too much' nor the refugees who 'pay too much'. It is the insatiable greed of the richest 0.1% and their system based on exploitation, enormous inequality and an anti-social policy, which must be stopped. We stand up for a society where not the profits of a small minority but the needs of the entire population are central!
