I work from home, so it doesn't really matter where I am

2018-01-23 14:21:13 UTC

and I was shocked when I started looking up property values

2018-01-23 14:22:03 UTC

Same here. I've got my van set up with a camping chair, folding table, and battery pack so I can even do my job while camping and traveling. As long as I've got 4G, I can be at work.

2018-01-23 14:22:27 UTC

nice

2018-01-23 14:22:59 UTC

Just bear in mind that the property values always match the local economy. Cost of living is low, but the job market's crappy. If you've got a sweet homesource job, you can make out like a bandit.

2018-01-23 14:23:32 UTC

yeah I get paid NY wages

2018-01-23 14:23:37 UTC

and work from home

2018-01-23 14:23:48 UTC

IT

2018-01-23 14:23:54 UTC

I bought 1.5 acres with a decent house (that needed repairs) and two livable mobile homes on it right in town for $52k. Can't achieve that kind of win where the economy's strong.

2018-01-23 14:24:12 UTC

Just don't bring in Mexican landscapers and housecleaners when you come. 😄

2018-01-23 14:24:15 UTC

Something like that would be 300K+ over here

2018-01-23 14:24:43 UTC

probably over 400K

2018-01-23 14:25:17 UTC

Ive got welding skills

2018-01-23 14:25:34 UTC

The Ohio guys are big on metalwork.

2018-01-23 14:25:54 UTC

Might want to hit up @Tony Hovater about that.

2018-01-23 14:26:09 UTC

goverment pretty lax in ohio

2018-01-23 14:27:07 UTC

Ohio's John Kasich's empire of lumbergian "compassionate conservatism."

2018-01-23 14:29:16 UTC

Contrary to what the name might lead you to believe, Indiana is entirely devoid of Indians.

2018-01-23 14:29:28 UTC

ah ive got a while yet as I thought I would build a life in this stupid state but im just getting old and watching time fly by

2018-01-23 14:29:49 UTC

Is West KY/Southern IN technically Appalachia or technically just out of bounds?

2018-01-23 14:30:15 UTC

Sociologically and historically, it's Greater Appalachia.

2018-01-23 14:30:35 UTC

Fair.

2018-01-23 14:31:03 UTC

Pretty much the same Anglo-Celtic stock and cultural memory, ...just less majestic scenery.

2018-01-23 14:31:21 UTC

Which IT branch is best? Network Admin, Security, etc.

2018-01-23 14:32:01 UTC

In my opinion, the most flexible bet is web app, mobile app, and dapp development.

2018-01-23 14:32:20 UTC

Those are the best for being a homesourced racist who does his job in athleisure pajamas.

2018-01-23 14:33:32 UTC

These different "tracks" seem almost unnecessary. I bet they could combine a couple.

2018-01-23 14:34:16 UTC

actually a useful template for the future Balkanization

2018-01-23 14:34:52 UTC

Yup.

2018-01-23 14:35:31 UTC

The stark difference between Appalachian and Deep Southern always seem to get glazed over, but it's two entirely different modes of American identity.

2018-01-23 14:35:33 UTC

@☦Colton of Yore☦ programming is best. microsoft stack, web api, c#, core 2, etc

2018-01-23 14:36:03 UTC

biggest selection of jobs, go to school for 2 year AS degree in Comp Science, learning basics of OOP

2018-01-23 14:36:18 UTC

Not favoring one over the other, but the stratified and rigid plantation society created a very different cultural and very different instincts from what the isolated and egalitarian yeoman farmer society produced.

2018-01-23 14:37:01 UTC

The Appalachian is polite, but has no manners. The Southerner has manners, but is impolite. The Yankee is neither.

2018-01-23 14:38:17 UTC

Microsoft Stack?

> spits his soylent out and flails his arms in a panic

2018-01-23 14:38:52 UTC

I would be totally fine if our Nation had the Greater Appalachia boundaries

2018-01-23 14:39:15 UTC

Hell, I would even be okay with letting at least some of the Texas portion go too

2018-01-23 14:39:32 UTC

that boundary looks like it includes Austin, and TX demographics in general are bad

2018-01-23 14:42:43 UTC

Greece's next election is next year right?
