winter changes depending on where you live

2019-11-04 19:44:12 UTC

what’s your winter like

2019-11-04 19:44:42 UTC

30-40 degree east coast winter

2019-11-04 19:44:51 UTC

can get pretty windy

2019-11-04 19:45:10 UTC

You probably know more about how to prepare for those than I do

2019-11-04 19:45:16 UTC

winter here is like 50 minimum

2019-11-04 19:46:31 UTC

id take that any day over this

2019-11-04 19:47:41 UTC

there’s not many positive aspects about living in California but the weather is something that nobody will be able to take away

2019-11-04 19:47:53 UTC

that said though

2019-11-04 19:48:11 UTC

I unironically want worse weather here so I have an excuse to wear gear

2019-11-04 19:49:00 UTC

wow lol

2019-11-04 19:55:07 UTC

I have all these nice jackets in my closet and it has been 75 and sunny for like 8 months

2019-11-04 19:57:49 UTC

Only cali weather problems here are fires

2019-11-04 19:58:05 UTC

Which sometimes warrant gear as the police fuck off, last year they didn't do much reporting on it

2019-11-04 19:58:25 UTC

But when the cops fucked off the dregs of LA county came to socal scoping houses like a damn christmas light drive thru

2019-11-04 20:02:29 UTC

Its only in the 30s at night so far so my work layering is t shirt thinnish hoodie and a north face outer shell

2019-11-04 20:09:02 UTC

I have 2 skin tight layers i use, i will wear them both if its cold enough.
A medium weight merino wool layer
And a sort of microflece layer
After that its shirt (maybe) flece and shell if needed.

Getting good boots, socks and sock liners are a must. I stepped in a frozen sink hole and soaked my boots last year, but my Darn Tough socks, liners and Herman Suvivors kept my feet toasty.

2019-11-04 20:11:44 UTC

Gaiters are good if you are walking through snow.

2019-11-04 20:11:50 UTC

The only thing i add come deep winter is a thermal base layer a big jacket n a beanie

2019-11-04 20:12:17 UTC

Same deal when not at work except the clothing is nicer

2019-11-04 20:12:26 UTC

It doesn’t get excessively cold here, but we get a lot of slush and rain and bullshit, so I wear goretex boots and wool socks every day

2019-11-04 20:13:24 UTC

who makes a good merino wool

2019-11-04 20:13:54 UTC

Darn Tough, Icebreaker

2019-11-04 20:14:01 UTC

@keef put on a jacket

2019-11-04 20:14:05 UTC

cause it doesnt get under like

2019-11-04 20:14:06 UTC

40 f here

2019-11-04 20:14:10 UTC

I’ve been pleased with both of those

2019-11-04 20:14:29 UTC

2019-11-04 20:14:31 UTC

ok <@&558119990725705748>

2019-11-04 20:14:35 UTC
2019-11-04 20:15:26 UTC

yergo do you have recommendations

2019-11-04 20:15:37 UTC

When it gets under 0F for the one week it does, it’s base layers and balaclava with an M65 and liner

2019-11-04 20:15:43 UTC

Also a huge factor is if you are moving or not. If you are sitting motionless in a blind you need more.

2019-11-04 20:16:00 UTC

But mostly it’s a heavy fleece with a rain/wind shell

2019-11-04 20:16:17 UTC

im walking through the cold and wind daily

2019-11-04 20:19:30 UTC

>listening to a floridian for cold weather gear advice

2019-11-04 20:32:26 UTC

@keef the cotton hoodie i got from mcdonald observatory in the trans-pecos

2019-11-04 20:32:31 UTC
