It's not that complicated. America hates whoever doesn't accept their whims. And even though when they destroy countries and may not impose a better ruler, it is a new ruler who might accept their interests better.

And in this they use whatever means, included funding, training and supporting whatever side they want, even ones you might think of as incompatible. It just serves to send a message and replace to the power centres with people more aligned to their interests.
