I dont think you can really. Bringing people in always costs money, money that could be spend on local schools for example.

So you got to choose: Let a million people immigrate, saivng a part of them from certain death but also risking public safety and spending money OR refuse them probably letting a part of them die but secure your own stability and saving money to spend on someting else

I can't really talk about AfD specifically I'm not familiar with their recent statements, but nationalist even when talking about concrete things simply won't recognise that the world isn't a zero-sum game anymore, and often things that seemingly make you lose money in the end benefit all, oh, and another thing, nationalists are never for win-win deals

Germany pays a lot of money for the EU cohesion policy, but thanks to infrastructural(and other) investments in poorer countries like Poland, not only they benefit directly because their companies have a better environment but also Poles have more money to spend on German products, the trade is growing and all so you could claim it's somewhat good for the both sides(of course Germany shouldn't keep paying forever)
