CBT is the mcdonalds of therapy
honestly I've really only started taking more of an interest in mental health because of my SO and her experiences
my last gf taught me a lot about this just by how she approached it
she finally got into psychotherapy and it helped her overcome some serious trauma from being raped as a kid
I don't want to self-diagnose but I struggle to find some happiness in this system we live in
Being labled never helped her
the news is just so fucking depressing
but to stay informed I have to read it
its masochistic
And she got me a good therapist too
who never told me i have anything but some shitty child hood stuff to work through
and to just get some actual discussion I have to hangout in brigaded forums to try and talk about the shit that pisses me off
yeah people are collectively anxious af
My college has a counselling service that I should probably take some time to see
in this era in the west
and my father whos a psych tells me shit that makes my blood boil
Please go on
Like behind closed doors they dont even believe the dsm
I don't think I can get more upset than I already am
@Nicholas91 that's fucked up
@Nicholas91 what does your GF have?
They think it at bests describes some patterns that people have in response to trauma and so on
My ex gf was raped repeatedly as a kid
when her mum needed some cash
That's awful
oh man
yah so they would say she has bipolar or whatever
and that went on forever
my so
is in a slightly similar situation
until she figured out that therapy itself has been split into two camps
i hesistate to make comparisons
The analytic and the behaviouralist
but she was basically in an an abusive right wing religious group
the latter is CBT and pathology and all that
had a psychotic break and got the fuck out of it
She's also bipolar
I have anxiety
Yeah people often have traumatic events happen to them
or long held beliefs from child hood
