I honestly expected better when going into it is the funny part
you are so obssessed with truth and nihilism that you forget that a good lie is better than an awful truth
so when I finished it just reinforced my initial disgust
an awful truth is better than a 'good lie'
there was never an afterlife
i mean, idrc about the quran that much. if it was that oppressive, then people who gets out of the middle east would try to downplay its role instead of trying to expand it, but that isnt the case
it was made up
"an awful truth is better than a 'good lie'" how so?
I just explained
why would it be better for society knowing that whatever they do will have no affect in anything on a cosmic scale?
you think thats good for people who are depressed and have nowhere to turn to?
even if it _is_ made up the teachings of many religion
still help people be guided to the moral path
there is no objective meaning to life
you must find your own
people who can't unfortunately face that fate far too often
fine, but you are still ignorant for removing all religion because it does not embody 100% truth and honesty
religion is man made, though
we can at least agree on that
religion is a good moral path. if it meant people believing that there is a flying spaghetti monster for them to live a life of humility and respectableness then so be it. make the world a better place
sure i guesss i cant really say
I wouldnt say it makes it a better place exactly
it has the potential to
how does teaching people be moral not lead to a better place?
the subject of morality is metaphysical
most small religious communities in the usa tend to be more friendly than big cities that arent religious like nyc
as a materialist I do not concern myself with this
morality is subjective
you can have things like heaven's gate
more friendly? sheesh
like the Amish communities who practice incest and give birth to deformed children and fend off outsiders?
morality is _partly_ subjective. there are objective morality out there. but leaving people open with subjective morality in mind would just lead to chaos. a society would require an objective moral code, and religion fits this mold.
heavens gate and other cult-ish things are a minority. you overinflate the bad things of religion that it covers the good thing about it
you do not have to overinflate what is already a big issue to understand that it is one
amish communities are a big issue?
the basis is the same
the fact that the US government isn't intervening is
its a free country
they're horrible
theres no point in intervening...
