so when I finished it just reinforced my initial disgust

2019-01-05 23:06:40 UTC

an awful truth is better than a 'good lie'

2019-01-05 23:07:01 UTC

there was never an afterlife

2019-01-05 23:07:04 UTC

i mean, idrc about the quran that much. if it was that oppressive, then people who gets out of the middle east would try to downplay its role instead of trying to expand it, but that isnt the case

2019-01-05 23:07:04 UTC

it was made up

2019-01-05 23:07:13 UTC

"an awful truth is better than a 'good lie'" how so?

2019-01-05 23:07:21 UTC

I just explained

2019-01-05 23:07:32 UTC

why would it be better for society knowing that whatever they do will have no affect in anything on a cosmic scale?

2019-01-05 23:07:44 UTC

you think thats good for people who are depressed and have nowhere to turn to?

2019-01-05 23:07:56 UTC

even if it _is_ made up the teachings of many religion

2019-01-05 23:08:07 UTC

still help people be guided to the moral path

2019-01-05 23:08:08 UTC

there is no objective meaning to life

2019-01-05 23:08:14 UTC

you must find your own

2019-01-05 23:08:29 UTC

people who can't unfortunately face that fate far too often

2019-01-05 23:08:46 UTC

fine, but you are still ignorant for removing all religion because it does not embody 100% truth and honesty

2019-01-05 23:09:03 UTC

religion is man made, though

2019-01-05 23:09:15 UTC

we can at least agree on that

2019-01-05 23:09:37 UTC

religion is a good moral path. if it meant people believing that there is a flying spaghetti monster for them to live a life of humility and respectableness then so be it. make the world a better place

2019-01-05 23:09:48 UTC

yeah

2019-01-05 23:10:00 UTC

sure i guesss i cant really say

2019-01-05 23:10:07 UTC

I wouldnt say it makes it a better place exactly

2019-01-05 23:10:12 UTC

it has the potential to

2019-01-05 23:10:21 UTC

how does teaching people be moral not lead to a better place?

2019-01-05 23:10:40 UTC

the subject of morality is metaphysical

2019-01-05 23:10:46 UTC

most small religious communities in the usa tend to be more friendly than big cities that arent religious like nyc

2019-01-05 23:10:56 UTC

as a materialist I do not concern myself with this

2019-01-05 23:11:01 UTC

morality is subjective

2019-01-05 23:11:11 UTC

you can have things like heaven's gate

2019-01-05 23:12:00 UTC

more friendly? sheesh

2019-01-05 23:12:42 UTC

like the Amish communities who practice incest and give birth to deformed children and fend off outsiders?

2019-01-05 23:13:11 UTC

morality is _partly_ subjective. there are objective morality out there. but leaving people open with subjective morality in mind would just lead to chaos. a society would require an objective moral code, and religion fits this mold.

2019-01-05 23:13:11 UTC

heavens gate and other cult-ish things are a minority. you overinflate the bad things of religion that it covers the good thing about it

2019-01-05 23:14:13 UTC

you do not have to overinflate what is already a big issue to understand that it is one

2019-01-05 23:14:26 UTC

amish communities are a big issue?

2019-01-05 23:14:29 UTC

the basis is the same

2019-01-05 23:14:59 UTC

the fact that the US government isn't intervening is

2019-01-05 23:15:08 UTC

its a free country

2019-01-05 23:15:10 UTC

they're horrible

2019-01-05 23:15:14 UTC

theres no point in intervening...

2019-01-05 23:15:16 UTC

they arent free

2019-01-05 23:15:18 UTC

amish people are horrible? lol
