but i'm not sure.

2019-12-25 20:12:51 UTC

usury
[ˈyo͞oZH(ə)rē]
NOUN

the illegal action or practice of lending money at unreasonably high rates of interest.
"the medieval prohibition on usury"
synonyms:
extortionate moneylending · payday lending · loan-sharking · shylocking
archaic
interest at unreasonably high rates.

2019-12-25 20:12:54 UTC

basically yeah

2019-12-25 20:13:13 UTC

so just lending money at high rates?

2019-12-25 20:13:46 UTC

if one bank lends money at an "unreasonably high rate" then people won't borrow money form that bank unless they are a fool.

2019-12-25 20:14:13 UTC

or unless that bank is the only service within reasonable reach

2019-12-25 20:14:30 UTC

the only thing about lending i would be against is passing debt to famely of the debter.

2019-12-25 20:14:41 UTC

other then that it is between you and the person you signed a contract with.

2019-12-25 20:15:06 UTC

well debt is debt, it doesn't just die if you do

2019-12-25 20:16:02 UTC

at that point the bank would be able to claim the collateral, if there was none then yes, it does.

2019-12-25 20:16:36 UTC

not unless there was family for that debt to migrate to

2019-12-25 20:16:38 UTC

that's why the bank repos a car if you don't pay, they own the car until you pay in full, so says the paperwork you signed.

2019-12-25 20:16:55 UTC

and there's realistically nothing stopping lenders from doing that without a central authority to penalize it

2019-12-25 20:17:07 UTC

if the debt is on a house and the family wants to keep the house then yes, they take on that debt.

2019-12-25 20:19:47 UTC

if they are saying "hay kid, you dad owed me a pile of money but he is dead so now you owe me that money" that is wrong and I would empower the government to block someone form doing that, but I would not empower the government form setting the interest rate.

2019-12-25 20:20:12 UTC

again, that would be part of the contract you signed with the bank.

2019-12-25 20:21:01 UTC

well that's something at least

2019-12-25 20:23:46 UTC

I would also note that the government has the power to demand what ever they want form you and the power to take it by any force needed.
they can go to your bank and demand access to your account.
they can go to your employer and demand your pay directly form them.
that to me is much worse then a %100 interest rate over a year.

2019-12-25 20:28:31 UTC

...
I also don't know what "service" is so important that the government should be able to compete with it.

2019-12-25 20:31:58 UTC

I have come up with a simple way to provide everything you need form "public utilities" by the way.

water could be trucked in and stored in tanks in your home like fuel oil, I bet people would be much better about saveing water then when it isn't just something they are hooked up to but something they have to buy by the gallon and have shipped in.
assueming you can't just drill a water well.

electricity can be made on site rather easy, and you have your pick of fuels and storage options, that's up to you and your needs.

Phone and internet are nice but not %100 needed, now with cell phones and satlite you have plenty of options for that as well.

Sewer is done the way anyone who doesn't live in a city does it, you just have a tank that stores the crap and you call a pump truck when it gets full.

2019-12-25 20:46:06 UTC

You can just dig a pit for the shit

2019-12-25 20:46:17 UTC

If your soil is soft and porous

2019-12-25 20:46:30 UTC

The soil I. The ground not the soil in your ass

2019-12-25 20:46:53 UTC

that's an option as well in the right places, but I was thinking of in places where people are used to haveing all of this stuff as standard, so cities mostly.

2019-12-25 20:47:31 UTC

in truth most of this stuff will still be cheaper to get it the normal way, but my point is there ARE options.

2019-12-25 20:47:53 UTC

A sewer doesn't require any power once its in and if its installed properly

2019-12-25 20:48:17 UTC

also the gov running stuff doesn't keep it safe, wasn't there a city in michigan that had bad water?

2019-12-25 20:48:35 UTC

if those pipes weren't regulated by the local gov i would be very surprised.

2019-12-25 20:53:58 UTC

...
one of the things that bothers me when people want the government as a service provider (for any service) is "the government doesn't even do it's actual job well! why on earth would you want them to do something else?"

2019-12-25 20:54:31 UTC

No need for gov regulation on sewers. If it flows out on end and in the other it works

2019-12-25 20:55:11 UTC

it was flint michigan, and it was their water pipes.

2019-12-25 20:55:54 UTC

but yes, I agree a sewer company wouldn't need the government to tell them if their pipes are gonna flow proper or not, they will do that fine on their own.

2019-12-25 20:56:29 UTC

more likely the government regs will make the pipes flow worse.

2019-12-25 20:59:20 UTC

Government regs would be like "employ plumbers for 40c an hour and get them to do the bits near environmental concerns"

2019-12-25 20:59:53 UTC

gotta make the sewer safe for the gators don't you know!

2019-12-25 21:00:16 UTC

(honestly, would such a reg surprise you in the slightest?)

2019-12-25 21:05:30 UTC

In British construction law no it wouldn't but over the seas in the americas it wouldn't surprise me one bit

2019-12-25 21:05:56 UTC

well for the British it would be the rats.

2019-12-25 21:26:08 UTC

So has Kim Jung Un done anything about his gift?

2019-12-25 21:26:55 UTC

go on....

2019-12-25 21:26:57 UTC

You know being in the clear advantage of being nuked out of orbit if they put a dent in the US?
