@ManAnimal england had a bigger pop than the us for a very very long time
and with pop goes production
They would actually be an industrial state if they stayed with the UK
the us only had 1 million americans at the time of the revolution
of course, most of europe still does
britain had many times that
despite being relatively small
most of europe doesnt have coal deposits AND easy sea access though
Issue is the UK is smol
population density is some 30-50% greater in most european countries than in the US
likewise britain used their military to crush their competitors
and force nations to open trade
So TLDR
and the US did less of this
see why they are different?
The British empire was an economic and military power throughout the 19th and early 20th century
Americas population has gone up fucking massively since ww2
by the time the US is the hegemon, they can't exactly go around and FORCE as many countries to give everything to them like the Brits did
even the US give to the Brits at one point
The British Empire was projecting power onto the world stage in a manner that is now comparable to the US at the time
but it was mostly local
More so actually because of China
they did it in the carribean
and they did it in japan
The issue is we see the way the US projects power but their model is just the British empires but toned down
then of course the spanish american war goes off
so that means the capacity of the US is a MUCH higher concentration because what they gained was through trade rather than conquest
The US secured the entirety of South America and the new world they just didn't do anything with it imao
and all of a sudden the us has colonies and economic enclaves
The British empire projected so much power it was thinly spread against a truly powerful opponent
nah, the US might project power but countries that are our allies, were YOUR slaves
Which makes sense because the US wasn't in a secure situation internally to look outwards at the time
the only reason why mexico isnt ruled by the french is they had the us as an ally
did you know that?
You talking about Germany?
The french could’ve taken the US
monroe doctrine was the keystone to american foreign policy
thus the US production is FAR more 'self-made' and the Brits was far more 'taken' from others
I wish the Anglo-French empire was a thing
@Samaritan™ the hapsburg emperor was put in place by the french
