They're actually a pretty cool channel. Probably a whole different staff from the main Verge channel.
And yeah sounds it. If they were willing to actually delve into the real why's on a drug price rather than just reeing communist talking points, I'd be surprised if they had any significant staff overlap outside of maybe video/audio editors.
The price of insulin is high because its a somewhat small market. Few companies provide most of the supply and keep making patents to try and keep profit margins high. It's essentially abuse of the patent system
combined with a market that is difficult to enter because of regulation on what insulin is
this team they showed were using genetic engineering to try and create new insulin-producing bacteria to try and enter the market with an insulin that anyone can produce
their intention is to incentivize a system where many people in small plants are making insulin instead of huge, few plants
I mean so far Verge Science has managed to be less biased than Hank Green on scishow
That vid was silly, but also fair enough to figure out the issue rather than just rage at it. With thus in mind, it's not bad *programming* neccesarily- it's probably more of a feature in order to prevent piggybacking & other such nonsense.
