it's a bit of a contradiction to place sceince as the highest standard yet priorities 'the law of man' over 'the law of nature'

I think you are confusing the word "law" with other uses of the word

it's not as much a dichotomy as it is an insistance on using terms that no longer apply

our modern legal system is still based on common law

call it what you will; just call it something that doesn't interfere with other concepts

everything complicated always comes down to semantics
