Theologically checked state, ergo state and church are seemingly seperate however the church has the power to publicly criticize and with great weight, the state, keeping the state in check

Rome wasnt christian and christianity wasnt stifling science nor was it at odds with science almost at all, in fact it was a rather large supporter of science, coming into conflict rather rarely. The relationship can be said "its compliated" but it didnt hold anything back rather it held things together.
