I have never seen a source to say there is a distinct difference between "flick" and "movie". The origin of the word "flick" comes from the word "flicker" which old films used to do on the early low tech projectors. Nowadays, "flick" is just used to mean "film" as in "action flick" "chick flick" etc. So that would make Action Movie and Action flick synonymous

I would look at action movies as a movie that contains action, but on a deeper level there is a genuine story and relation between characters. Characters that interact with eachother and feel eachother on a whole different level, someone you can relate with. You're not there to see explosion. You're there to see the people.

Action flicks are purely action. Not deeper feelings. You're not there for the people. You're there for the guns and explosion. While you could argue that "But the man and woman battle it out on the bed and it ends in explosion" i would deem that arguement invalid. After the climax you can hear, feel and see the people. Their joy or sufferance. In an action flick you can't see that. That's what you watch in porn, their reactions. The feelings that you can relate to. Not just some battle that has a bunch of explosions that look cool, and then you move on with your life.

Your definition is purely based on your opinion and biases, and therefore couldn't be used as a trustworthy and legitimate distinction between a "flick" and a "movie".

The same could be said for words such as "fag", "gay" etc. Words change meanings over time

Flick is just something you watch to laugh at, or go "woah that's so cool"
A movie is something you watch to enjoy it, you're there for the story and interaction between the characters

This is still a distinction based on pure opinion by you. No dictionary makes a distinction between a flick and a movie

But by how people use those words

You can create a clear social definition

A norm

something not stated anywhere, but people follow

And dictionaries evolve to account for that, flick and movie has been in a vocabulary long enough for dictionaries to supply a distinct definition between them. But they haven't
