and that is the only angle from which it looks *at all* innocuous
I did post several angles, and that is the primary angle from which you would even see it.
it is not
you would see it from below
Below is the parliament chambers.
and from below it looks far worse because the steel rings are too thick
from below like this http://www.fubis.org/de/4_exk/reichstag/Reichstag.jpg?width=700&density=3
not from inside
The thin rings would detract from the monumentality of the building, I don't see the reason why the rings should be thinner.
At least in my opinion.
Don't worry about it
your opinion is already discounted
epic.
I'll just discount your opinion about my opinion then.

Also interesting how you mention the "self hatred" angle, because the main idea of the design was the "transparency" of the Parliament and democracy, that visitors can view at any time from above. A very common fad in modern architecture.

Not to say that the overuse of glass is exactly welcome, I prefer something a bit more eco-friendly. But Norman Foster did a surprisingly decent job with this one.
nice

@Kazimir Malevich I think the Australian Parliament House has also done well in terms of its symbolism

This requires some explanation, Foreground: Australian war memorial
Background: Old Parliament House
Far background: Parliament House

There’s also some cleverness with the roads and the layouts of significant landmarks
The parliamentary system sucks
We need an Australian Czar
Your right. Caesarism has never gone wrong, not ever.
@CronoSaturn Oof, looks bloody neat, especially the green roofs, big sucker for those. I'll try to see what the interiours look like.
@FreshWholeMilk Monarchy is awesome, except it cannot withstand any technological advancement beyond pidgeon mail.
